Passengers arriving at Bengaluru City Railway Station enroute to the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) can now take Volvo buses to reach the airport in 60 minutes.
The service was flagged off on Tuesday by the South Western Railway which has tied up with the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC). There'll be a bus on the return direction too, enabling those flying to Bangalore reach the railway station to carry on with their onward journey by train.

to take international flights from KIA has gone up,“ said Anil Kumar Agarwal, divisional railway manager, Bangalore division.
The first bus will start from the railway station at 12.35am and will be available after every 30 to 60 minutes. The last bus departs at 11.50pm from the railway station.
“It'll be a boon for passengers who have to carry luggage. They can board the bus at the bay outside the station,“ said BMTC general manager (operations) G N Veere Gowda. Each trip will cost Rs 220.
There will be platform ticket-vending machines at the call taxi booth, a Hopcoms stall and medical shop in the concourse area.
Special bus to Goa for year-end:
To meet the holiday rush, KSRTC will ply a special multi-axle Volvo bus from Bengaluru to Panaji, Goa, from November 28 to January 5, 2014.
The bus will leave Bengaluru at 6.30pm every day to reach Panaji at 7.45am the next day . On its return journey, the bus will depart from Panaji at 5.30pm and reach Bengaluru at 6.45am. The fare (adult) is Rs 842.
IN THE PIPELINE

Four escalators at Yeshwantpur and 14 automated ticket-vending machines for the entire division are also in the pipeline. “We should get that in place by JanuaryFebruary next year.Passengers can either put in coins or currency notes to buy unreserved tickets to their destinations,“ said Dr Anup Dayanand Sadhu, senior divisional commercial manager, Bangalore division.

Lot of such links are missing. For example if srinivaspur madanpalle are linked , sbc tpty will become short and all east bound routes can take this route instead of congested mas or kpd tpty route.anekal bidadi is again a long term need. Especially if done via harohalli / kanakapura.

blank paper ticket means that you can do a break journey on a single ticket
for example you want to travel from station A to C in two diffrent trains.
first you will be going from station A to B and from B you will be taking a train to C so blank paper ticket will be allowing you to do journey from A to B and B to C and fare will be charged just for A to C :)

I presume you are versed with the concept of a #telescopicticket. If not, please go through the post just above me by our Admin Shri Harsh.
I would still try and explain a bit on my own.
#############################
#############################
...
#Telescopic:
You want to travel from HWH-SBC but availability for direct trains isn't available.
What option will you have? Take a buffer connection somewhere in between.
Conditions:
1) No Premier/Premium Trains. No trains offering point to point fare. No Toy Trains. No Passenger Trains/No Trains offering subsidized fare
(Rajdhani/Duronto/Shatabdi/Jan Shatabdi/Garib Rath/Yuva/Passenger/Toy Trains/Premium Trains)
2) Total distance to be traveled should not exceed more than 15% of the shortest distance between the starting station and the final station. (Calculated against any direct connections between those two stations, if available)
3) You can any number of transits in between.
4) You cannot continue in the same train you are traveling). However, you can board the same train on the next day. (One which had departed from your boarding station the day next to yours)
If you are traveling from HWH to YPR and due to unavailability of direct tickets if you chose to issue a telescopic ticket for yourself for:
HWH to YPR, reservation upto VSKP
and
VSKP to YPR, reservation upto YPR in the same train;
it will not work.
In such a case, you would need to issue two seperate tickets for yourself.
Kindly note: Whenever you fill up the lower portion of the reservation form, it implies you are claiming to be eligible for #telescopicfare.
#############################
#############################
If the distance traveled by you in any of these individual legs happens to be atleast 500 kms or more, you can take a 'break' at the transit station for 2 days (Excluding the date of arrival and the date of departure.)
That is if you arrive at Station X at 00:01 hours on Sunday, you can board your connecting train on Wednesday at 23:59 hours. (For the former the time is referred to as the time of arrival while for the latter train it is the time of departure).
This is known as Break Journey. #breakjourney
If it is less than 500 km, you would need to make sure to take the connecting train within a period of 24 hours.
This is known as Onward/Through Journey. #onward, #onwardjourney, #throughjourney
This is only the type of Journey you are choosing to travel and has nothing to do otherwise. Each and every other details for both remains the same.

1.12723 -AP Express SC-AGC, Arr at AGC 5:50 am
2.18237 - CG Express - AGC-SBB, Dep from AGC 4:00 pm
3.15013 - Ranikhet Express - SBB-KGM, Transfer at SBB at 11:00 pm
##
##
Form would be written as:
Train:- 12723 AP Express
Date of Journey: 30/12/2013
From: SC
To: KGM
Boarding At: SC
Reservation Upto: AGC
Next portion of the form:
Train:- 18237 CG Express
Date of Journey: 31/12/2013
From: AGC
Reservation Upto: SBB
Next Form:
Write PNR Number of the first ticket at the top.
Train:- 15013 Ranikhet Express
Date of Journey: 31/12/2013
From: SBB
To: KGM
Boarding At: SBB
Reservation upto: KGM
#############################
#############################
Fare charged for such types of journey are only levied for the direct distance between the starting station and the terminating station, thus saving you a lot of money).
You can book in multiple classes. It isn't necessary to book for the same class throughout.
However, there is a debate on the fare structure levied in such cases. In the most extreme case, the fare against the highest class may be charged while in other cases some concession may be visible.
#############################
#############################
For #cancellation charges,
First Leg has got Confirmed while the Second Leg remains at WL/RAC => Cancellation Charges of Confirmed Ticket will be levied as applicable for the highest class.
Vice Versa => Cancellation Charges of WL/RAC Ticket will be levied as applicable for the highest class.
If you travel the first leg and then if you do not travel the second leg (Be it for whatsoever reason):
Fare refund = Total Fare - Fare applicable against the distance traveled.
For all of the above three cases, please do take in consideration the service charges levied by IR.
#############################
#############################
There happens to be two basic bifurcations while issuing a Telescopic Ticket namely Journey-cum-Reservation Ticket and Blank Paper Ticket. #bpt, #blankpaperticket
When people starts using different train combinations, they are fed into the system. That is clerk will not have to do any calculation on his own regarding the total distance traveled and/or fare to be paid.
PRS Clerk would first try to use menu 1-0 in the system. If the said combination exist in the system; i.e. if the destination system has been defined as a cluster station for the starting train; then a regular Journey-cum-Reservation Ticket will be issued.
Ex:- HWH-MAS => Coromandel and MAS-SBC=> SBC-MAS Mail is a popular combination.
If such combinations are not fed into the system, the clerk has to manually calculate the distance and and feed it into the system using menu 7-19 and then charge the fare.
Ex:- SHM-MAS Weekly SF and SBC-MAS Mail may not be a popular option or in demand.
#############################
#############################
For the former you would be issued a Journey-cum-Reservation Ticket where all the details are pre-fed by the system while for the latter it is called a Blank Paper Ticket where the clerk has to manually feed in all the details.
Blank Paper Tickets are issued in exceptional cases when the possible combination cannot be issued from PRS Menu 1-0.
Kindly note, in case of Telescopic tickets, Superfast Charge is levied only once and not twice(No matter how many SF trains you are going to board for your entire journey). In case of Break Journey only, Reservation Charges are levied fresh for every new Reservation made.

But when I transported my bike from sbc to ktym they charged me 1000 for transporting, 350 for packing , 150 unpacking, 210 late charges in ktym. Can you kindly inform where I can get the details of exact charges? Secondly, why is self packing not allowed?

This train follows the same route as that of Bangalore-ERS intercity express but surprisingly does not change to electric engine. For the entire 800 km it is hauled by diesel. The railways could save a huge amount of fuel cost if an electric engine is used from Salem onwards just as it is done for the intercity express.
Sometimes dont understand the rationale of railways.....They try to increase fares in various ways, superfast charge, reservation charge, cancellation charge etc etc but dont try to look at ways where they can save huge costs from their end.

Very true. Plus it increases the revenue of railways, decreases pollution. I had read that diesel costs three to four times electricity. Plus diesel engines have high total consumption , like to turn on the engine, I heard it takes 40 to 50 litres. 2500 bucks to start a diesel engine. If it's kept idle at a station, it consumes like 10 to 12 litres

Yeah WDM 3A at 15-17 coach eats up 50-55litres an hour running at 60-70kmph and at idle state or no load condition it takes 1 litre per hour:
source :LP of KGM DDN express
though electric traction is more costly.. the production of electricity, transmission by catoneries, and cost of pantograph etc. adds up a lot
