May 28 2015 (10:38)   Rameswaram station goes green, gets more bio-toilet fitted railway coaches

MADURAI: Following the recent announcement in the railway budget to make Rameswaram a green station, the Madurai railway division has started allotting more bio-toilet fitted coaches to the station.
One of the important pilgrimage centres attracting lakhs of pilgrims from across India, Rameswaram is well connected with major North Indian destinations by rail. Out of the 145 coaches maintained in Rameswaram, 78 are fitted with bio-toilets, said divisional railway manager, Sunil Kumar Garg. The remaining coaches too would be fitted with bio-toilets soon. Out of the 778 coaches used in Madurai division, 177 coaches are already fitted with bio-toilets, the DRM said.
to railway officials, the main advantage of bio-toilets is that human excreta will not spill on to the tracks and spoil the station premises when the train is stationary.
The outlet of the lavatory is connected to a bio-digester with six chambers where the excreta is made to go through a series of changes with the help of innoculum bacteria culture - filled periodically as and when necessary - in a slow process by which the bacteria reacts with the excreta converting it into methane gas and water. At the end, the water is chlorinated and then allowed to fall on to the track thus protecting the environment.
However, maintenance staffs face issues with bio-toilets since passengers are not sufficiently sensitised about their use. Discarding papers, polythene bags, sanitary napkins, plastic bottles and cloth rags choke these toilets. On Tuesday, the division held a day-long exhibition on bio-toilets with the intention of sensitising travelling public as part of passenger and customer facilitation fortnight.
Meanwhile, a yoga camp was organised at Rameswaram by the personnel department for 40 railway staff which was conducted by volunteers of Art of Living on Wednesday as part of the customer facilitation fortnight.
A passenger road show with union leaders as brand ambassadors was organised by the personnel and commercial departments at Rameswaram where volunteers of scouts and guides staged a road show for creating safety awareness among the passengers and public. About 150 people witnessed the road show, according to railway officials.
At Madurai junction, a signal safety seminar was organised by the signal and telecommunication department for signalling staff. About 30 officers and staff from signal maintenance took part in the seminar.

NEW DELHI: Railway minister Suresh Prabhu has planned to observe the Narendra Modi-led government's first anniversary by sending his officers out in the field.
Sensing a strong disconnect between the railway officers - especially the ones making policies at Rail Bhavan - and the users of the state-run enterprise, Prabhu has asked them to move out of their airconditioned offices to see the ground situation.
The ministry is preparing a schedule for the officers to travel all over the country like ordinary passengers - in second class. "They have
been asked to shun their luxury saloons that they generally use to travel and go in the second class. It is only when they experience the hardships faced by common passengers that they will probably come up with better policies," revealed a senior government official.
Prabhu's plan is not limited to exposing officials to the plight of passengers. He has also asked the railway board members to make weekly visits to various zones and see the conditions in which the railway officers are working in the field.
"There are several problems that the railway officials and other staff face during operations. The running rooms for the drivers are in a very bad state. The junior staff - like trackmen, trolley men, gatemen and watchmen; all responsible for safe operations - work in extremely poor conditions," said the official, requesting not to be named. "So the entire railway board including the chairman will visit the zones together for inspection," he added.

Don't be surprised if a person sitting beside you smokes and the GRP pretends to see nothing..
Don't be surprised if a drunkard creates trouble in running train and kindly don't raise any complaint regarding that drunkard and if you will they will say that the drunkard has a valid travel ticket and they will throw you out saying you are troubling that drunkard..
Funny IR

You are right but corruption in railway has so many wings , when you travel in 15035 from Delhi , the ticket checker will come to you and if you have no seating reservation then he will collect rupees 15/- per seat without any receipt and if you ask for receipt than he wil give receipt in very annoyed mood.

Mar 21 2015 (21:11)   Platform ticket price hike welcomed

From April 1, when you visit Chennai Central or Egmore railway stations to see off your loved ones, you will have to pay more for a platform ticket.
The Ministry of Railways has decided to increase the price of a platform ticket from Rs. 5 to Rs. 10 to regulate the crowd entering the stations.
Many passengers have welcomed the move. “In fact, the price can be increased further. Many people accompany train passengers and congest the platforms. Several unwanted people too enter the station premises,” says K.S. Gopalakrishnan, former member of Zonal
Railway Users Consultative Committee.
According to a circular issued by the Railway Board, dated March 16, divisional railway managers (DRMs) can increase the price of platform tickets beyond Rs. 10 to regulate passenger rush during fairs and rallies, after informing the Board.
The Railways have also given instructions to all zonal railway offices to print revised tickets on top priority and ensure supply to all stations well in advance.
“Till the revised tickets are made available, the old stock of tickets can be used with the new price stamped on it. Necessary instructions have been given to modify the price in the software used for issuing platform tickets through vending machines at stations, enquiry systems, and websites,” said a railway official.
Till 2012, the price of platform tickets was Rs. 3 per person. But in the railway budget, the price was hiked to Rs. 5.
However, some passengers feel proper checking is necessary to ensure everybody purchases the tickets.
“Many platform dwellers sleep at Chennai Central station, but nobody monitors this. There is a need to improve the toilets, drinking water facility and cleanliness at the stations. The Railways should also improve the quality of service,” said S. Mohanram, former member, Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee.

When Idiots run the show you can see things like this..
If IR need to decongest platforms cut down unauthorized vendors,Authorised vendors,Stray dogs,Beggars because these are the original congesting elements..IR will never attend to this.
I myself know atleast 3 stray dogs in egmore..So you want me to believe that you are going to charge these dogs more. Hi Hi ...comedians
I suggest
a tip to decongest Suburban network.....Hike the tickets 10 times, then crowd becomes thinner 10 times...
Good Luck IR beggars....New & polite way to beg

Sorry my last post was not so polite but I don't want to edit it anyway...I don't know how many of you agree with me but crowd/congestion was not always a problem for me...
In fact the best part of rail journey is the moment when an anxious child/person waiting to receive a relative suddenly become ecstatic and screams in joy shouting for their relatives---those moments are priceless...And I don't want IR to spoil that....
If you are so itchy in decongestion go start your work elsewhere, there are innumerable areas where decongestion
is mandatory like ticket counters, Gen. UR coaches, Suburban network.....
I repeat congestion is not a problem in Stations,, atleast for me...
