actually a couple with WL 15 and 16 in 1st AC got their tickets confirmed through HO quota and got the two people coupe because they were known to some railway people. and I shared my wife's berth till VSKP. so much for Indian Railways and its big big talks. and nodes like HWH, SDAH, NJP etc are paradises for touts hand in gloves with the railway officials, U can buy any ticket from Kolkata to anywhere in any class upto the time of train departure, there is a big mafia racket behind it and I don't think any minister or any official has the spine to take on them. I am an ardent rail fan right from early 80s in my childhood when the steam whistle of the PDY - VM line behind our campus held a fascination for me and till recently upto last 5 yrs or so I...
would still prefer a train over a flight. But I am dejected enough to say that no more does a train have priority over a flight for me. given the fact that upper class travel is being made more expensive in the guise of cross subsidizing others, I appear to be a dumb fool for preferring 1st AC travel inspite of the fact that after paying more than a flight fare I still can't choose my berths or seats, which even a Volvo bus booking offers. successive rail ministries have not addressed these issues and I have no hope the present one too will. after all railways are for the masses, cattle class is what they want to treat us as; we upper class pax are not really needed by the railways.

One way of getting around this problem is that atleast during puja season increase capacity by augmenting an HA2 or HB1 coach or even a pure H1 coach for trains too and fro Kolkata. This will earn extra revenue for the railways because a Bengali will definitely like to indulge in luxury with his family members atleast during puja time. This was suggested to the higher ups but implementation might have faced ground realities and logistical problems. Anyway, there appears no solution in sight and upper class travel and its travails will continue to have the colonial hangover of 'everyone is equal but some are more equal than others'.

No augmentation possible as this is already running with full capacity. Once 26 coaches are cleared to.operate I sure this train would be augmented by a 3tier AC coach atleast

How will be an extra 3AC coach help someone who wants to indulge in the luxury of 1A atleast during puja season? And is it that 1A is only meant for the free loaders of railway Babus, bureaucrats and politicians and the rest of us full fare payers are cattle even if we can afford 1A and prefer 1A?

First AC is primarily meant for VIPs which is unfortunate and there are very few trains to have a complete H1 coach or more than one first AC coach. So permanent augmentation of first AC seems a little unrealistic to me.

Dear administrators of the website, let me begin by thanking you profusely for a wonderful maintenance as well upgrading the site over the last 5 years. I use this site like an encyclopedia. From IRFCA to this site is a wonderful transition for me.
I use iPhone 3GS and until about a few months back I could still check availability. But nowadays it says that the site is getting upgraded and availability check can only be done on a Google Chrome desktop browser. When is it likely that availability check returns to mobile browsers?
continue the good work. Thank you.

Yesterday a very distressing event occurred when my dad of 70 yrs boarded the 12664 Tiruchirapalli- Howrah express at Villupuram. His PNR is 4146495038 for 2nd AC (2A) travel for 27/11/2012 from VM to HWH. Booking status on 09/11/2012 was GNWL 4/ WL 4. This was an eticket booked by me for my dad. This came down to W/L 1 one week before scheduled departure and RAC 4 on 25th ie 2 days before departure. On the date of departure, the train departs from Trichy at 1600 hrs ie 4pm. Since I wanted to find out the status I was constatntly logging on to irctc site and checking the status. The charting was done after 230pm and it showed A1 40. I checked again through 139 enquiry where it said confirmed and A1 40. My dad got it written down from the booking office at Puducherry Railway station from where he...
took the passenger train to VM. At VM, while trying to board the AC 2 tier coach, he was informed by the TTE that A1 coach has become 3 tier AC and that he has to travel in 3 tier AC and that his berth is an upper one. Such things were told by the TTE to a group of other passengers. There was another 93 year gentleman who too was given an upper berth in 3AC. All these passengers were then issued a difference of fare certificate for travel in lower class. When my dad called me to inform this, I just told my dad to inform the TTE that the Indian Express reporters have been informed of a possible fraud taking place in the train by the TTE who had already sold the berths to the highest bidders at Trichy, the originating station, itself. And now the TTE was magnanimously allowing a refund of fare putting the onus of the loss of revenue on the Indian Railways and not on his own pocket. I meanwhile informed the Indian Express office in Chennai about this. Nearing Chennai Egmore he was offered a lower berth. The TTE claimed that there was no AC 2 tier coach in the train. Now why this mismanagement on the part of Railways. They increase fares. People book in advance. And still this is the service given to the aam aadmi. Right from our political leaders down to the government servants and organisations everyone is taking part in massive carelessness causing negligence bordering on wilful acts and acts of arrogance. These trains from the south to the east carry lot of patients. And this the way the railway treats its passengers. How brainless must be the officials that inspite of seeing the beyond the capacity occupancy rates of these trains, they still run the Trichy Howrah, Kanyakumari Howrah, Pondicherry Howrah, Bangalore Guwahati, Trivandrum Guwahati, Ernakulam Guwahati trains with one AC 2 tier coach. When will the government of this country wake up and deliver the services honestly for the money paid by an aam aadmi?
