I had sent an e-mail to DRM/ PGT, SR with cc to GM, SR with a request to open additional ticket counters on PF #1 of Kozhikode (Calicut / CLT) station in the morning hours by 05.30 am as there are 6 departures in the 6 am-7am slot. Now the railway authorities have promptly responded and implimented most of my suggestions. Now additonal counter will open at 5.30 and JTBS and ATVMs will open at 5 am on both PF 1 & 4 and in the vicinity of CLT a Class A-1 station in Kerala. Thank you DRM-PGT & GM-SR..... Thanks once again....

It is technically possible to have a single locomotive with duel power technology for a seamless operation of train. It is like a Diesel locomotive with a pantograph and in electrified route it draws power from overhead traction line and in non-electrified route it runs like a normal diesel locomotive.
Similar locomotives are manufactured by Bombardier (ALP-45DP) and are in use in USA and Canada and also by Talgo (Alvia S730) used by Renfe for hi-speed lines in Spain. It saves time in changing locos as well as cost of inventory.....When will we have such rolling-stocks....!!!!!

Spanish Train Maker Talgo has unique VGA technology ie Variable Gauge Axle for multi gauge operation of train. The Spanish Broad Gauge or the Iberian Gauge is 1668 mm wide and it is slightly shorter (by 8mm) than Indian BG which is 1676 mm apart. In the neighbouring France, the SNCF railway system uses 1435 mm Standard Gauge also known as Stephenson Gauge named after the English railway pioneer George Stephenson who used the 4 ft 8 1⁄2 in gauge (including a belated extra 1⁄2 in (13 mm) of free movement to reduce binding on curves for the Liverpool and Manchester Railway that opened in September 1830. 55% of world railway uses SG. In India most Metro lines (except Red, Yellow & Blue lines of DMRC) and Calcutta tramways uses Standard Gauge.
Trans-border
...
trains from Spain to France has a break of gauge that could cause a hindrance for international travellers to change trains at border crossings...but now it is not so......thanks to VGA that enables the same train to run on different track gauges without having to change the bogies (under carriages) as is done in Russia- China borders. Russia uses 1520 mm whereas China has Standard gauge. Changing bogies take a lot of time, hence the VGA. Here the train goes through a specially designed gauge change mechanism where the wheels get unlocked and pushed-in or out as the case may be and the wheels are locked in new position (all automatically) while travelling on a tapered track slowly and the train continues its journey non-stop.
In India we can use this for future trains that may travel both on hi-speed track and the regular desi tracks. For instance IR plans a hi-speed track from Mumbai to Ahmadabad...beyond that we have regular BG track. Mumbai Rajadhani can run on this track upto Baroda on hi-speed SG and switch to BG route for its onward travel to Delhi without having to change trains. You can have common rolling stock thus saving on inventory & capital investments.

Why not Talgo trainset on Mumbai- Madgaon corridor. Way back in 2003 there was a trial run of LHB coaches that covered Roha-Madgaon stretch in 3 & half hours....but the train was never introduced may be because of lobbying by airline & luxury bus segments....

Regular semi-hi-speed Talgo can be introduced between Dadar & Madgaon on 6 days / week basis....Is the Minister hearing....!!!!

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
