The railway station at Hubballi will soon have the longest railway platform in the world. 
At present, the length of the platform is 550 metres, and it was earlier decided to increase it to 1,400 metres. The South-Western Railway (SWR) later decided to increase the length to 1,505 metres.
At present, the 1,366 metre-long platform at Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, which is the headquarters of the North-Eastern Railway (NER), is the longest railway platform in the world. The platform was renovated in 2013.

"The work was expected to be completed in June, but there was shortage of labourers due to Covid-19 situation. Now, more than 250 labourers are working, and the project will be completed by January end," said SWR chief public relations officer E Vijaya.

Union Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi has stated that doubling of the railway line between Castle Rock and Vasco is expected to be a reality soon, as the land acquisition issue is expected to be resolved soon with the intervention of Goa government.
He was speaking to media persons on Monday regarding the sanction of a new direct railway line between Dharwad and Belagavi, a project which has been the long-standing demand of people of North Karnataka.
“The double-tracking between Londa and Miraj is on the verge of completion while double-tracking
between Londa and Tinaighat would be completed in the next couple of months. After the double-tracking completes, it would enhance the faster connectivity and better train services,” said Angadi.
“Work in Goa is also expected to complete as I understand the Goa government has taken up the land acquisition matter.”
Giving details about the newly sanctioned railway line, the union minister said at present, rail connectivity between Belagavi and Dharwad goes via Londa junction, which is a circuitous route.
“With this new line, the distance between the three important cities of Hubballi, Dharwad and Belagavi will reduce, resulting in significant development, while running time of trains between Hubballi and Belagavi will also reduce,” he said.
“The Karnataka government will give free land for the project while Rs 927.40 crore cost of the project would be shared on a 50-50 sharing basis by the State government and Indian Railways,” the union minister added.

You need to look at who is executing authority of projects like RVNL have many projects in CR SWR SCR often RVNL doubling projects delayed not only in SWR but in CR but SWR itself making Doubling works where the speed of Doubling is faster than RVNL example Doubling Between Solapur Gulbarga, Doubling Between Hospet Hubli etc.. Where as SWR doing great work in Doubling compared to SCR and CR.

I don't think making all lines of karnataka double is necessary. If they run trains on those some single lines then it's enough for better rail service and also karnataka cities need Train maintenance facility as present only Bengaluru, Hubli, Mysore and Arsikere have them which makes trains to often connect these places to get maintenance which is not better thing they need to do such facility at Ballari, Bijapur, Hassan, Gadag, Davangere by which new trains can be started from these places to serve most of the passengers. Majorly important lines getting doubled and electrified but still new line connections needed in state to be completed soon.

A rail model enthusiast and station manager with Mumbai Monorail has spent all of the lockdown creating realistic replicas of trains. Coming up next, a model of his employer Akash Kamble, 23, made his first cardboard train model of a two-coach local when he was in Class VIII Akash Kamble fell in love when he was a little boy. And once he set eyes on her languid, unending, lithe body, he was hooked. His mother would take him along on the Mumbai local, from Bhayandar to Charni Road every day, so that her in-laws could babysit while she finished a day's work at her Fort office. Travelling in the train, watching it fly past through the window grill, had Kamble realise he loved trains deeply enough to work around them. To acquire the weather beaten look of a diesel locomotive, Kamble uses candle light...

He has, in the last five weeks, made 11 models of hi-class trains, from locomotives to local coaches. "I first started with cardboard and foam-based train and engine models, but later moved to working with aluminium. My research involves reading about trains, their specifications and poring over their drawings. I make models of 1:35 scale, realistic and a perfect match [to the original]. The continuous involvement slowly leads to perfection," says Kamble, a resident of Ambernath, adding, "I have made a model of the most powerful green coloured WAG-9 electric locomotive and two coaches of the Garib Rath train. Besides this, one of my favourites is the diesel locomotive, a few coaches of the Mumbai local and a mail express." He has also found the time to give finishing touches to earlier models, giving them a realistic feel. To acquire a weather beaten look of a diesel locomotive, he uses candle light against the aluminium sheets. In 2019, Kamble joined what he calls his dream job. And, next on his agenda is to make a "replica of my employer". Railways is ready with a new protocol of rail travel to be implemented after lockdown ends, says a report.
If you are preparing for a train journey after lifting of the lockdown then you must arm yourself with the revised rules and regulations governing train travel which might come into effect says a report in The new protocol is being worked on by the ministry of railways the report says and adds that it is still not clear if train services for passengers will resume immediately after April 15 or be delayed if the lockdown is extended. Familiarizing oneself with the new reality of rail travel in the wake of some likely revisions may come in handy for travellers.

One of the new norms is likely to require passengers to reach the railway station at least four hours in advance of the scheduled departure time of their train. The four-hour lead time has been set keeping in mind additional safety protocols that are likely to come into effect after the resumption of services, including thermal screening of each and every passenger to detect symptoms of coronavirus. In another major change, only passengers with reserved tickets may be allowed to enter the platforms. Platform tickets are not likely to be sold during this period to prevent crowding on stations, the report states.

Here is a list of the major changes that are likely to govern rail travel post lockdown according to the website.
1. Only non-Air conditioned coaches may be available for travel in order to prevent the spread of the disease, which is believed to have greater potential for transmission in air-conditioned environment.
2. Passengers may be required to update and inform the railways of their health status 12 hours before travel.
3. If a traveller is found with symptoms of Covid-19, he is likely to be deboarded and forced to abandon his journey.
4. Every passenger may be given a face mask and a hand glove to use during the journey against a small fee. The use of mask and gloves could be mandatory during travel.
6. Vendors may not be allowed to enter the coaches from outside.
7. Senior citizens may be dissuaded from travelling on trains to save them from catching the infection.
8. Passengers may have to pass through a specially made tunnel for disinfection.
9. Social distancing norms may be enforced during the journey.
10. All four doors in a train coach are likely to be kept locked to prevent any unauthorised entry into the compartment during the course of the journey.
11. Most trains are likely to operate non-stop between the originating and the destination stations, only a couple of additional stops in between may be allowed in some cases.
12. The side berth in sleeper coaches may be kept vacant to ensure social distancing and only two passengers are likely to be allowed in a cabin comprising of six berths.

In yet another testimony that development projects take precedence over the environment, the state government on Friday approved the controversial Hubballi-Ankola rail line, a project that environmentalists have been opposing for over two decades. Ironically, the decision to okay destruction of close to 600 hectares of forest area came on the eve of the International Forest Day (celebrated on March 21), the theme for which was forests and biodiversity.
It also comes not long after it was proposed to reduce the eco-sensitive zone around the Bannerghatta Biological Park by 100 sq km, and at a time when forest land in Kodagu district continues to be under threat. Naturally, environmentalists are peeved that the government has allowed a railway line that will cut

Urging more people to raise their voices against the project, environmentalist Akhilesh Chipli from SWAN and Man (Save-Wild-Atmosphere--Nature and Man) says, "This is a totally unnecessary and disastrous project, which will affect some 600 hectares of pristine forest and destroy over two lakh trees, some of which are 200-300 years old. The repercussions of such a move would be unimaginable, so it is time to come out and let our voices be heard, at least online, if not on the ground."
The forests where the Hubballi-Ankola railway zone has been earmarked are rich in fauna, represented by 29 species of mammals, 256 species of birds, eight species of reptiles and 50 species of butterflies. Majority of the mammals belong to IUCN Red List and are protected under the

The comment made by Bsc Eng science is like childish.. What the hell of revenue is useful by destructing nature which is by God. We cannot get such Nature facility and regarding what revenue SWR earn by this new rail line? Already they have Hospet Vasco route under doubling with RE process so it can be helpful for SWR revenue itself as end to end section under SWR. What and how the emoplyment generated and social standard of North karnataka ppl upgrade by making this new line? Instead it affects the nature and it's benefits to all of us.
