The First long-distance Sleeper Variant Twin Deck Coach is being designed at Railway Coach Factory, Kapurthala, Punjab. The twin-deck coach, to be manufactured at a cost of around 2.5 to 3 crores under Make in India initiative, will have capacity for 120 passengers same as the Double Decker Coach.
RCF is working on technology with a state of the art facility providing passengers capacity similar to double decker coach, which is likely to be completed in the financial year 2020-21. After meeting the safety and speed standards from RDSO, it will be included in the Indian Railways fleet.

Chair Car Double Decker coaches are running on various tracks in the Indian Railways Network, but all these coaches are able to give only day-service. It is not possible to sit for in long distance journey. The sleeper variant of these double decker coaches will be called twin deck coaches, in which one can travel by sleeping.
However, the design of this DAC is currently under progress, about which no technical features had been revealed by RCF management. Ravinder Gupta, General Manager of Rail Coach Factory said that most of the poor people travel in rail, whose percentage is very high. They mostly have to stand and travel. To overcome this problem, such coaches are being manufactured by RCF. So that the person traveling with family, does not have to fight for the seat.
He said that on behalf of the RCF manager, the people of the villages around the factory have started a contact campaign to find employment opportunities for them. So that they can get more and more employment opportunities in RCF. So that RCF can focus on working with creativity to manage and manufacture good coaches.

Aug 14 2018 (07:59)   Jodhpur, Marwar cleanliest among major railway stations

A2Z~   12810 news posts
Entry# 3710152   News Entry# 350887         Tags   Past Edits
Rajasthan’s Jodhpur and Marwar railway stations have emerged the cleanliest among the major stations in the country in the latest round of cleanliness assessment study. While Jodhpur secured the first position in A1 category stations for this year, Marwar took the pole position in A category, according to the study report released by Railway Minister Piyush Goyal on Monday. Both the stations fall under North Western Railway zone.
A1 and A category stations contribute 80 per cent of the passenger revenue. The stations are categorised as A1 and A based on revenue generated and footfalls. Releasing the report, Goyal suggested making the annual study a half-yearly exercise for bringing about greater competitiveness among the stations and ensuring a “test check” in maintaining

cleanliness standards.
None of the major stations in the metros found a place in the top 10 list save for Anand Vihar in New Delhi, which came in at fifth position. New Delhi station was ranked 39th, a position it had held last year too.
In the A1 category, Jaipur has been ranked second and Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh ranked third. Vishakapatnam had emerged at the top in last year’s ranking of the A1 category station. It has slid to 10th position this year. Phulera in Rajasthan took the second place among A category stations, while Warangal in Telangana was ranked third.
When asked about the worst performing station in the cleanliness chart, Goyal did not name the station but said the north-central railway has come at the 16th place, indicating it was worst performing among all the zones in terms of cleanliness. The railways is divided into 16 zones.
“Last year, it was at the 15th place. We will take it up,” the minister said, highlighting the unique challenges confronting the zone. “The zone is saturated, has over utilised infrastructure and passing through difficult times,” he said. The zone is headquartered in Allahabad and the routes passing through it have over 110 per cent capacity utilisation.
The North Western Railway topped in cleanliness zone-wise, followed by South Central Railway while East Coast Railway was ranked third. According to the survey report, compared to 2017, there is nine per cent improvement in top 100 stations, 14 per cent in the next 100.
The cleanliness ranking, conducted by the Quality Council of India, was started in 2016. Since then, according to the study, there has been a significant improvement in the cleanliness aspect. In 2017-18, average cleanliness of stations went up by 18 per cent, and 61 per cent of all citizens covered in the latest round of the study said the cleanliness was “above average”, QCI chairman Adil Zainulbhai said.
Significantly, 47 per of the citizens felt train toilets are “cleaner now”, he said. According to the study, 39 stations scored over 90 per cent, a major jump given that last year none of them were in this bracket. Besides, 161 stations scored over 80 per cent in the latest survey.
The parameters adopted for conducting the survey were ‘evaluation of the process of cleanliness in parking, main entry area, main platform, waiting room, direct observation by QCI assessors of cleanliness and passenger feedback, with each of the parameters carrying 33.33 per cent.

May 26 2018 (22:09)   Railways to install new signalling system on Delhi-Mughalsarai section

The railway board has approved the proposal of ETCS (European Train Control System) signalling between Ghaziabad and Mughalsarai.
In a move that will decongest the busiest route of Indian railways, the railway board has approved the proposal of ETCS (European Train Control System) signalling between Ghaziabad and Mughalsarai.
This comes about a month after the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) asked the railways to evaluate its 100% signalling upgradation move. According to the railways, the PMO had not completely shot down the proposal and had asked to evaluate it.
The

railways earlier had decided upon 100% ETCS over the next six years and give the contract in one go, giving the supplier the benefit of economies of scale. But after the PMO’s intervention, it will test the technology on one route and will decide further implementation after response.
“In the recent Railway Board meet, Ghaziabad-Mughalsarai section was identified for ETCS level 2 signalling. Since the Delhi-Mughalsarai route has high traffic density, modern signalling will help in enhancement of safety,” said a Railways official.
The capacity utilisation on this route is 150% and the punctuality is also the worst among the 17 zones of Indian Railway. Once the system is implemented, the number of accidents will reduce.
“Modern signalling will help reduce congestion in rail network and increase line capacity by 40%-50%. It will also improve punctuality as it can eliminate train delays due to automated signalling and real time information of train movements, eliminating the need for manual data logging,” the officer added. It will also help to increase average speed of trains due to automation of train operations.

The national flag will be displayed prominently in all diesel locomotives hauling passenger and freight trains operating across the country.
This follows a recent directive from the Railway Board, New Delhi, to all Zonal Railways across the country. The Railway Board in a written communication to the 16 Zonal Railways directed that the national flag should be displayed on all diesel locomotives as per the dimensions specified by it.
The board also asked the Zonal Railways to ensure proper upkeep of the national flag displayed on the diesel locomotives. The Southern Railway commenced

the exercise of displaying the national flag on its diesel locomotives.
Stickers of the national flag are being pasted on the diesel locomotives at the Tiruchi Diesel Loco Shed – one of the four major sheds in the Southern Railway zone housing diesel locos of different types.
Stickers of the tricolour have been pasted on both ends of the diesel locomotives housed at the sprawling Tiruchi shed. Railway officials told The Hindu that national flag stickers purchased from the trade had been pasted on three diesel locos till now.
The exercise would continue and the national flag stickers would be pasted on all diesel locomotives in the due course, including diesel power cars maintained, at the Tiruchi shed.
The Tiruchi Diesel Loco Shed — a premier establishment in Southern Railway zone — alone maintains a fleet of 45 high horsepower ‘EMD” type diesel locos; 51 ‘Alco’ type diesel locos, 37 diesel power cars hauling DEMU trains; five shunting locomotives and five metre gauge locomotives.
The other diesel loco sheds in the Southern Railway zone are situated at Erode, Ernakulam and Tondiarpet in Chennai.
The Tiruchi shed is the only one in the Southern Railway zone to maintain the highest fleet of high horsepower EMD type locomotives which can chug at a maximum speed of 140 kilometres per hour. The diesel locomotives come to the shed for periodic attention and scheduled examination before being sent back for operation once again.
