The trains will be operational on all days, except SundayFinally, after years of waiting, one can board a train to the airport halt station from Monday. Interestingly, the ticket fares will not be more than Rs 15.E Vijaya, Chief Public Relations Officer and Deputy General Manager, South Western Railways (SWR), said, “It will be a 10-rupee ticket from Bengaluru city (Majestic) to Kempegowda Airport halt on a direct route, while it will cost Rs 15 from Majestic to Airport halt via Bengaluru Cantonment stations.” This will be the cheapest option to reach the airport. Currently, one has to pay around Rs 270 to travel in a Vayu Vajra, and a cab fare is between Rs 600 and Rs 1,000. However, one needs to board a shuttle service from the halt station to the airport terminal while taking a train. As per the train schedule, the trains wilal be available on six days,...

The footfalls at KIA were in thousands daily (including flyers and non-flyers). “Even if 20 per cent shifts to trains, it will be a win-win situation for all. With lesser congestion, cabs will be able to make a trip or two extra and earn more.” Five pairs of trains have been approved by the Railway boardTrains towards KIA Majestic-4.45 am, KIA-5.50 am Yelahanka- 7 am, KIA-7.20 am Yeshwanthpur-8.30 am, KIA-9.17 am Cantonment-5.55 pm, KIA-6.50 am Majestic-9 pm, KIA-10.05 pmTrains from KIA KIA-6.22 am, Yelahanka - 6.50 am KIA-7.45 am, Cantonment-8.50 am KIA-8.21 am, Yeshwanthpur-9.25 am KIA-6.43 pm, Majestic-8.20 pm KIA-10.37 pm, Majestic-11.55 pm

Mar 03 2020 (15:39)   Techies want trains to stop at Whitefield

With no trains halting at Whitefield post 7pm, travel has become a pain
Techies travelling from Whitefield are spending over three hours daily trying to reach home, due to the notorious traffic jams in the evenings. As many trains do not halt at the Whitefield station post 7 pm, commuters are forced to rely on private vehicles.
Rakesh Gundarlahalli, a software engineer who works near ITPL travels mostly in trains. He takes an express train in the morning from Majestic to Whitefield and doesn’t face much trouble on his way to work, but

on his way back he has to leave an hour early from work, to catch the train. “If I miss the train, I then have to take a bus which takes around 1.5 hours to reach Byappanahalli. Train takes only 20 minutes. It will help reduce congestion on road and pollution if we use trains. As the Metro work is also going on, it leads to lot of traffic and dust on the road,” he said.
Adding to the sentiment, Nagaraj BV, a techie said that since it will take couple of years to introduce suburban rail in the city, the authorities can atleast introduce an additional stops at Whitefield to ease traffic.
Describing his commute as a suffering, Nagaraj said, “There are about three trains that travel between 7 pm and 10.30 pm like Lalbagh Express, Sanghamitra Express and Darbhanga Express. These trains can stop at Whitefield as many techies leave from office between 7 pm and 9.30 pm. This will increase the train travel time by 10 minutes but also make it feasible. It will take care of some traffic on the road.”
Nagaraj also added that the government should avoid introducing suburban train with air-conditioned coaches. “Citizens need functioning trains and not AC coaches. The funds should be used for increasing the frequency of trains instead of AC coaches. In Mumbai, the government recently introduced AC train and the project wasn’t a great success it hasn’t been doing well. The rise in fares is very discouraging,” he said.

Hyderabad: In an attempt to decongest the Secunderabad railway station in the city, South Central Railway (SCR) is aiming to provide halts for express trains at Malkajgiri, Lingampally, Begumpet, Falaknuma, and Bolarum. With more than 229 trains running from the Secunderabad railway station, it sees an average daily footfall of 1.8 lakh passengers. According to SCR, the Secunderabad station has met its capacity with 10 platforms and there is no scope of expanding the physical infrastructure of the station given the area it is established in."We are aiming at developing different stations across the city as terminal stations to be able to disperse the passenger rush to other stations.Passengers have long been demanding that more express trains halt at Malkajgiri station due to tremendous increase in the number of passengers in the belt."Malkajgiri railway station already sees more than 3,500 passengers on an average per day. During discussions with authorities it...

has been acknowledged that if more trains halt here, the numbers will increase radically," said a member of Suburban Train and Bus Travellers Association."A number of passengers from the area have to board their trains from either Kacheguda or Secunderabad for the lack of an option," he added. To address the issue, SCR is now providing halts for ten express trains at Malkajgiri and around 20 express trains pass through it."We are also aiming at completing the development of Cherlapally station into a satellite terminal at a cost of Rs 221 crore within the next three years, the development works have begun," an SCR official told TOI, adding that the move should help in catering to the need of rail users from the outskirts of the city.Due to land hurdles, a six platform terminal station will be developed which should help with the running of MMTS trains across the routes, informed railway officials. With the fast expansion of the city along Gachibowli and Patancheru, Serilingampally has also emerged as an important station for the passengers in the suburbs."Serilingampally sees an average of 25, 000 passengers per day and around 100 trains including MMTS, passenger, express and other long-distance trains run through it," said the SCR official. To cater to the passengers in western parts of the city, SCR is also extending the facilities in Lingampally as a terminal station where at present 40,000 passengers commute through it per day."An impressive number of 108 MMTS trains, 14 pairs of express and mail trains along with eight pairs of passenger trains halt at the station," a senior railway official told TOI."We are using the MMTS station as a rail transit hub to decongest the busy terminals like Secunderabad, Kacheguda and Hyderabad. We will soon be linking with the station in the future by extension of trains or additional stoppages," he added saying that the move will help see an additional 20,000 passengers daily. In the last couple of years, the authorities are working on improving the infrastructure at Lingampally to provide rail connectivity while taking the passenger heat off Sunderabad railway station as the rail users demands a full-fledged rail terminal at Lingampally.
