Nov 13 (21:46)   Dhanbad-Alappuzha Express:

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Utkrisht Double Decker Air-Conditioned Yatri (UDAY) Express, which chugged into the city railway station two days ago, will begin services soon from Visakhapatnam to Vijayawada.
The double-decker train is the most awaited as it was brought to the city after many representations made to the Railway Board for providing a special service from Vizag to Vijayawada.
The rake, which is currently parked at the Coaching Complex in Vizag will finish trial run and begin services.

double-decker train, which will have nine passenger coaches and two power cars, will run five days in a week. It will start from Vizag at 5.45 am and reach Vijayawada at 11.15 am. In the return direction, the train will depart Vijayawada at 5.30 pm and reach chug into Vizag at 11 pm.
The Union Ministry of Railways had previously announced three UDAY double-decker express trains in India — one is running in Northern Railways and the second one is now at Visakhapatnam railway station. The 2017 budget had announced the UDAY Express to Waltair Division. Though the  coaches were manufactured long ago, there was a delay in permission given by Railway Coach Factory at Kapurthala in Punjab. Later, Commission of Railway Safety (CRS) had also delayed the granting of permission for the train service.
According to Railway sources, the Waltair division previously had two Linke Hoffmann Busch (LHB) coach trains — AP AC Express and Vizag-Tirupati double-decker train. Now, the UDAY Express will be the third LHB coach train in the division. As per the guidelines, the coaches will have spacious leg space, seating system, Wi-Fi facility, station indication system and luggage storing racks.
Specialties Ample leg space, Station indication, Wi-Fi facility,Luggage storing racks

May 17 2017 (17:11)   Diversion of Yeshwantpur-Karwar express hardly cuts travel time

SWR’s move reduces journey time by just 10 minutes
The South Western Railway’s decision to divert Train No. 16515 Yeshwantpur-Karwar tri-weekly express via Nelamangala and Shravanabelagola instead of Tumakuru and Arsikere reduces journey time by just 10 minutes. At the same time, its decision to revise the departure timing of Train No. 16575 Yeshwantpur-Mangaluru Junction Gomateshwara Express from 7.50 a.m. to 7.10 a.m. would extend journey time by 40 minutes.
The SWR on Saturday announced the diversion of Yeshwantpur-Karwar-Yeshwantpur tri-weekly express via the shortest route with effect from June 2 from Yeshwantpur and

June 3 from Karwar. Instead of the 7 a.m. departure, the train departs from Yeshwantpur at 7.10 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays to reach Mangaluru Junction at the existing time of 5.40 p.m. It takes 1.48 hours to traverse 19 km between Bantwal and Mangaluru Junction.
The departure timing of Yeshwantpur-Mangaluru Junction Gomateshwara Express has been revised to match the timing of Train No. 16515, where Gomateshwara Express is made to leave Yeshwantpur at 7.10 a.m. to reach Mangaluru Junction at the existing arrival time of 5.30 p.m. (10.20 hours).
However, the diversion speeds up the return journey of Train No. 16516 Karwar-Yeshwantpur tri-weekly express. The train leaves Mangaluru Junction at 11.30 a.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays instead of 11 a.m., to reach Yeshwantpur at 8.30 p.m. instead of 10 p.m.
Similarly, there is no change in the departure and arrival timing of Train No. 16576 from Mangaluru Junction and Yeshwantpur (11.30 a.m. and 8.30 p.m.) respectively. There is no change in days of service and timing of Tain No. 16515/165116 between Mangaluru Junction and Karwar.
Prolonged wait
Sources in SWR pointed out that the journey time of Karwar-Yeshwantpur Express has been reduced by 1.30 hours with the diversion. The trains, both Yeshwantpur-Karwar Express and Yeshwantpur-Mangaluru Junction Express, have to wait for a long time to enter Mangaluru Junction Station, which comes under southern railways thereby, lengthening the journey hours. If the southern railways agrees to receive the trains early, the journey hours would be reduced, sources added.
Vinay Kumar, member of SWR’s Zonal Railway Users’ Consultative Committee, regretted that the diversion did not reduce journey hours and lamented that the zone is unresponsive to commuters’ needs.

The female staff said the cloth supplied to them for uniforms were transparent and of poor quality
Women workers of northern railway have written to the Railway Board saying that given the lack of changing room for them at most stations, their uniform should be restricted to an apron which can be worn over their regular clothes.
Sunita Dhiman, general secretary of the women’s wing of Uttariya Railway Mazdoor Union (URMU) wrote to Railway Board Chairman Ashwani Lohani, requesting him to change the uniforms of the women commercial staffers primarily involved in

booking and reservation of tickets.
Their uniforms are either a khaki salwar kameez or a shirt and pant depending on the category of work. The women commercial staffers have the board that they be provided just white aprons which can be worn on top of their clothes.
“There are no changing rooms for women staff at stations. We are just requesting the railway to provide aprons to us which we can wear over our regular clothes. It will save us time as well. Also, the quality of cloth supplied to us for our uniforms are transparent and of very poor quality. We can’t even wear them for long,” Dhiman told PTI.
In her letter, Dhiman said 93 women work at Delhi Railway Station, New Delhi Railway station and Anand Vihar Terminal, and they have all written letters in support of apron being the uniform.
In fact, she said, women staffers from across northern railways have the same problem with uniform.
“We have attached a sample photo of the white apron with name and batch along with the letter so that they can get an idea about what kind of uniform we are comfortable in,” Dhiman said.

Jun 20 2018 (15:54)   BJP leader assures rail zone for Vizag, steel factory for Kadapa - Business Line

A2Z~   12810 news posts
Entry# 3553713   News Entry# 342087         Tags   Past Edits
Somu Verraju, MLC, senior leader of Bharatiya Janata Party, and an outspoken critic of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, has asserted that Visakhapatnam will get the promised railway zone and Kadapa the steel factory and there need not be any doubts or misgivings over the issue.
He was addressing the media here on Wednesday. He said the Telugu Desam Party as well as the Chief Minister had launched a concerted attack on his party over the past few months, after the TDP had broken away from the NDA, and said his party is "perfectly capable of hitting back at the TDP and paying it back in the same coin, but to the BJP the welfare of the people of the State is

more important than playing politics’’.
Finding fault with the member of Parliament, C M Ramesh, for launching an indefinite fast in Kadapa for the promised steel factory from Wednesday, he said the central committee had given a report on the Kadapa steel plant and it had asked the State Government to fulfil certain conditions, but "the TDP Government and TDP leaders are politicising the issue, just as they are politicising the special category issue’’.
Polavaram visit
He said a team of senior party leaders would visit the mega Polavaram irrigation project under construction in West Godavari district on June 24 and study for themselves the progress of the project.
He alleged that the TDP and the Chief Minister were "misleading the public on the project and the sincerity of the ruling TDP is suspect. For the delay in the construction of the project, the TDP is solely responsible."
