While booking, all the confirmed and thereafter (RAC) berths were exhausted after which the status moved on to WL.
However due to cancellations, Berths as of now are available.

atleast one confirmed berth would be available. There may be more berths, but this can only be known after booking.

1) Just like WL/Available, RAC/Availabile may be found at times.
2) WL/Available is not to be confused with Available X (Where X>=1)
3) Simple reason why the number of berths available is not displayed beside "Available" in the status "WL/Available"

Let us consider train goes from A-B-C
b) No RAC Defined.
c) 100 berths defined for ARP
d) All of the 100 berths got booked - 50 WL'ed tickets got booked - Current Status WL 50
e) 55 passengers (5 Confirmed + 50 WL) cancels their ticket.
f) Ideally there can be 5 available seats.)
g) Now I want to book 5 tickets for A-B whereas the 5 confirmed passengers who had cancelled their tickets; 4 of them held the berths for A-C while only one had confirmed berths for A-B
h) Thus, I would be lucky enough just to get that 1 berth after which the status would again move back to WL. (Here, displaying WL/Available 5 would result in anomaly)
i) Later, any further bookings for A-C (As it would move to WL) would see clearance (Atleast for that 4 Confirmed and then Cancelled berths) during chart preparation.

Atleast one confirm ticket is available. It shows that booking status is WL and present status of the same is available.

WL/Available -- Means the tickets quota has exhausted but due to cancellation there are made available again. You will get a confirmed ticket if you book now. But the Coach/seat number will be available only after chart preparation.

One cannot tell how many seats are available when status is WL/AVAILABLE.If you book, you will get atleast 1 confirmed ticket.

One seat is available. You might or might not get the berth no/coach no after booking or after chating.

Till Now, I havent seen the status remaing available after a seat is booked considering Wl/Avlbl status. I myself have booked thrice against this status. Twice I got the seat, one I did not. However the status changed back to WL immediately after I booked my ticket.

Yes it can be any number but not big numbers except in case of mass cancellations. generally 1 to 6 in normal conditions.
