(1) Going by numbers in real sense the train operation of IR is not that bad as per world standards.
(2) Death at railway crossings and at stations (crossing tracks) are mainly due to the negligence or wrong act of the deceased.
(3) We cannot blame IR employees/ their working for the falling of paxs due to over crowding, it is due to under investment and improper investment.
(4)...
more... The annual death figure shall be considerably reduced if the deaths due to above 2 factors are subtracted.
(5) Absolute figure of deaths in USA is very low. The report conveniently forgets to account that the number of passengers carried by American railways is very low as compared to IR. Their trains are not crowded, have automatic closing doors, and their network have latest and costly signaling systems which are inherently safer.
(6) Poor project implementation and number and cost escalation of pending projects is a result of political expediency where every RM starts scores of projects during the tenure in home constituency/state and almost all of them remain under construction till the end of the tenure. New RM have new priorities and new projects and so on. The list of pending projects go on swelling. Most of these projects are financially not desirable, and money seldom flows into the financially rewarding projects.
