Railway Board is now planning to remove Pantry Cars Service from its all trains. All India Railwaymen’s Federation requested Railway Minister Piyush Goyal last week. In a letter to Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, All India Railwaymen’s Federation suggested to replace Pantry Cars with AC Coach in all trains. Pantry Car is a coach, which is connected in the middle of the train. In this coach, food is prepared which is served to Reserve Class Passengers.Currently railway is facing massive loss in revenue due to cancellation trains. To reduce its operational cost and increase the revenue, the railway is advised to remove pantry cars from trains. Railways earn a very negligible amount of money from these Pantry Car coaches. If These coaches are replaced with AC Coaches, then railways will receive a big revenue. Currently AC3 Tier is a most profitable class of AC coach in railways.Replacing Pantry Cars with AC Coaches...

also be a very big benifit for passengers as well as railways.Addition of AC3 Tier will help passengers to clear waiting list and it will help railways to earn more revenue.

On the other hand, passengers will still get food which will be prepared in Base Kitchens on Stations. Most of the major stations have a base kitchen facility where foods are prepared for trains. Instead of Pantry Car, food will be prepared in the base kitchens and will be served in trains. And also catering services in trains can easily be provided by train-side vending, static catering units at stations en route, and by e-catering services. However, this proposal is currently being examined by railway board.Final decision on this proposal will be taken by Ministry of Railways later.
