Ticket rate and stops are not finalised yet. A total of 20 new and old MEMU or DEMU services will commence from March.
Electric trains started service from Shoranur to Mangaluru in May 2017. The Railway granted permission for MEMU service in Kerala following intense pressure. The Southern Railway was allotted 13-bogies.
The Railway divisions have been directed to conduct services in a way that make available MEMU rakes. One of them is starting service from March 16. However, passengers are also protesting for not allotting the Mangaluru-Kannur MEMU service.
Mathrubhumi had reported the struggles of passengers from Malabar region for not having MEMU services. Various passenger associations demanded that the MEMU service should be extended to Mangaluru to resolve their problems.
