September 25, 2023, were found guilty of planting an improvised explosive device (IED) near the Ghorasahan railway station in East Champaran district. The IED was discovered and defused before it could detonate. The court sentenced Umashakar Patel, Gajendra Kumar Sharma, and Motilal Paswan to 12 years each, with additional fines. Rakesh Kumar Yadav, Mukesh Yadav, and Ranjay Shah were sentenced to 9 years each, also with fines. The case was initially investigated by the Raxaul GRP and later transferred to the NIA in 2017.
