Almost a month after the short circuit in an underground wire caused the Kurla signalling panel fire, the Central Railways (CR) have issued a precautionary note to all departments to insulate all high-voltage underground cables spread across the suburban section.
The administration
has directed officials working on DC-AC conversion and electrical maintenance to ensure that the new cables being laid are insulated. Also, the old high-voltage wires are to be insulated while carrying out the interlocking work. “The cable network in the suburban section is huge. Using a cable detector, the officials can
find out which cable is supplying power to which station,” said a senior CR official on condition of anonymity as he is not authorised to speak to the media.
“Once detected, the department concerned has been asked to insulate the wire as a protective measure,” added the official.
V Malegaonkar, chief public relations officer, CR, denied any information on the development. However, he confirmed that the technical committee report on Kurla signalling fire system is likely to be submitted to general manager Subodh Jain on Tuesday.
