Delhi Police have arrested three persons for robbing people after offering them lift in an autorickshaw. Police said the gang used to pick up passengers from Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station and would sedate them before fleeing with their belongings. The arrest came following the
complaint of an army officer who was robbed and dumped in Dhaula Kuan by the same gang last week. "We have recovered a laptop, suitcases with new and used clothes, camera, mobile phones and around 295 tablets from the accused men," a senior police officer said. Police have also seized their autorickshaw.
accused have been identified as Irfan, 29, who was the leader of the gang, Wahid Khan, 32, and Sanjay, 30. All are residents of Delhi.
Police said one member of the gang used to drive the autorickshaw while others sat at the back, posing as passengers. They would identify their target and then offer lifts.
"The accused used to offer their victims a ride in their TSR at the cheapest rates and then after travelling a certain distance, one of them would stop the vehicle to buy a water bottle or some cold drink. He would then lace the drink with sedatives before offering it to the victim. Once the victim fell unconscious, they would dump him at a secluded place and flee with valuables," the officer added.
