KMRL ne Kozhikode ke conventional metro (approx. 18km) ka DPR bhi complete kar liya hai, chahe Thiruvananthapuram ke mukable (15,000 se zyada PHPD traffic) Kozhikode mein PHPD traffic thoda kam hi kyun na ho. Conventional metro light metro se zyada cost effective hai, kyunki sab kuch indigenous hai. Funding mein state aur central government 20-20% denge, baki 60% loan se ayega.
