Bickering alliance partners in BMC--Shiv Sena and BJP--opposed each other at a tree committee meeting on Thursday over whether around 3,000 trees could be cuttransplanted for Metro work in the city.
Sena teamed up with Opposition parties to oppose some proposals, while its junior alliance partner in BMC, BJP , supported them. Committee members passed some proposals considering their urgency, as some were creating bottlenecks on roads, but kept other proposals on hold. BJP members stated that Sena and Opposition demanded a site visit before clearing many tree-cutting proposals.“Recently , BMC had arranged a site visit but they are saying they were unaware about it, as it was not official. Congress corporator and tree authority member, Devendra Amberkar, said, “We supported proposals which required urgent clearance. But there are some issues that need to be addressed. We want to known where they will transplant them, and we want to ensure that it should not create an imbalance.“
