TIRUNELVELI: A plus two student who tried to snap a selfie atop a train coach in Tirunelveli railway station was electrocuted and hospitalised after he came in contact with the high tension wire above him. Police said that the boy's condition in the hospital continued to be critical.
The victim was identified as Yuvaraj, 17, son of Kasirajan from Lakshmi Nagar near Sivakasi in Virudhungar district. Kasirajan is working abroad and had come to take part in his close relative's marriage in Tirunelveli on Sunday. He attended the marriage along with his wife, two daughters and Yuvaraj. The incident took place when the student who was at the station along with his relative, Parthiban, a tenth standard student of Sivakasi, suddenly
thought of taking a selfie standing on top of the coach. Parthiban stood below while Yuvraj climbed atop the coach not sensing the high tension electric wire passing overhead. He accidentally touched the wire when he raised his hand to take the selfie, and was thrown down. People in the vicinity rushed to the spot and rushed the teenager to Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital in a critical condition. Railway police have registered a case and are conducting an inquiry.
