DEHRADUN: Commuters had a harrowing time as 10 trains were partially cancelled/cancelled and the destinations of 20 other trains were alerted due to the Northern Railway undertaking repair work between Motochir-Raiwala stations and Haridwar-Motichur stations on Thursday.A number of trains coming to Dehradun including the New Delhi-Dehradun Shatabdi Express from Delhi and Bandra Terminus-Dehradun express coming from Mumbai had different termination points instead of the usual railway station in the state capital. The New Delhi-Dehradun Shatabdi which usually comes till the state capital was terminated at Saharanpur in UP. Saharanpur is nearly 70 km from Dehradun.
The railways was carrying out for repair and strengthening work of Bridge no. 61 between Motichur-Raiwala stations and Bridge no. 41 between Haridwar-Motichur stations on Laksar-Dehradun
section of Moradabad division but commuters were left in the dark as no communication was not broadcast earlier about the disruption.
Railway officials said that this was a one-day block and normal services would from Friday. When TOI contacted Sanjay Aman, chief reservation supervisor, Dehradun railway station, he said, “We tried to inform people beforehand through our enquiry service and messages broadcast through media to avoid confusion. The plan for the mega block worked smoothly for the repair work. However, passengers need not worry as this was only a one-day block and things will be back to normal from Friday.”
Almost 10 trains passing through this section like the Haridwar-Rishikesh passenger, Dehradun-Saharanpur passenger, Haridwar Ramnagar express, Chandausi-Rishikesh Passenger among other trains which were cancelled for the day. Many passengers at the Dehradun railway station could be seen running helter-skelter to enquire about the alteration in origin and termination points of the trains.
“I was supposed to catch the Dehradun-Amritsar express from here but I just found out that it will now originate from Haridwar instead. Repair work is necessary but people must have been better informed about such interruptions,” said Rohan Bisht, a college student.
