at 4.15 a.m.
The Chengalpattu – Coimbatore train will be operated on Tuesdays and Thursdays on December 20, 22, 27, 29, January 3, 5, 10, 12, 17,19, 24, 26, 31 and February 2, 7, 9.
The train will depart from Chengalpattu at 6 p.m. and will reach Coimbatore at 3.30 a.m. The entire train will run with unreserved coaches. The various commuters organisations have urged the Railways to extend the train up to Tambaram.
The train reaches Chengalpattu at 4.15 a.m. and the commuters will have to move to the bus stand in the town to catch bus to Chennai city, as the electric train service will not be available in such early hours, says A. Mohamed Moideen, member of the Salem Civil Engineers Association. Similarly, the timings of the train in both the directions are not passenger-friendly, a cross section of the people say.
The departure of this train from Chengalpattu should be delayed so as to leave by 9 p.m. so that it can reach Coimbatore by 5 a.m., a time that will prove comfortable to one and all, says S. Sivakumar, founder of the Attur town based Tourist Guides Association.
