Patna: Does the Bihar capital need a dedicated circular rail service for Patna like the one in Delhi? Railway experts answer in the affirmative, and plead for a tie-up between the Indian Railways and the state government for developing a circular rail service to de-congest the pressure of traffic on the streets of Patna.
Sources said the state government is already at work to roll out a 20.5km Ganga Path between Digha Ghat and Deedarganj with 7.6km elevated alignment between the Collectorate Ghat and Gai. “Railway transport is always superior to road transport insofar as energy efficiency, mass rapid transit, environment friendliness and intensive land use are concerned. Now, therefore, the second right of way along the Ganga bank should be designed
for a circular railway between Digha Ghat and Patna Ghat,” said railways’ retired chief engineer G N Sahay.
The state government is also planning a ring road for Patna. This can be integrated with the concept of a ring railway, which can be laid to encompass the circular railway between Digha Ghat and Patna Ghat, Sahay said on Friday.
Railway experts also said the circular rail and ring rail would prove a boon for Patnaites would benefit office-goers and students the most. Railway communication is more consumer friendly and faster than the road transport system, they said, adding the state government must also expedite early execution of Metro Rail plan for Patna to reduce traffic load on the city streets.
