LUDHIANA: With fog enveloping several parts of north India, as many as 36 trains to and from city were delayed on Wednesday. Besides, two trains -- New Delhi-Amritsar Swarna Shatabdi and Jansewa Express -- were canceled.
The rail traffic on Delhi-Howrah route was the worst hit. Several trains coming from east and central India were late by hours, some by more than 24 hours.
Jansewa Express which has to reach on December 12 was delayed by 25 hours and reached the station on December 14 at 1:00 am. Shaheed Express was running late
by 36 hours and reached at Ludhiana station on December 16 at 8:40pm.
Shatabdis were late by more than two-and-a-half hours. Passengers were a harried lot as they had to wait for hours in the cold at railway station. Niti Khurana who had to board the Shatabdi at 5:20am said the train was late by more than two hours. "I have to report in the court for my case but couldn't do so due to train delay."
Another passenger Pardeep Singh said my train to Pathankot was late by 3 hours. "A delay of minutes is fine, but it is difficult to wait for hours."
Ashok Salaria, Ludhiana railway superintendent, said they have been making various announcements and uploading information on display boards.
