Ghaziabad: Four miscreants were arrested for stealing mobile phones and laptops from the premises of Ghaziabad railway station on Monday night. The accused were held at platforms 5 and 6 of the station under the state government's ongoing drive to curb petty crime in the area. They are all residents of Sunder Puri in Vijaynagar.
Ten mobile phones and one laptop have been recovered from their possession.
The accused have been identified as Ayub, Bobby, Mangal and Sunil who are all in their late teens or early twenties and are drug addicts. They would
usually target passengers who are not from Ghaziabad, and later sell the stolen objects for a much cheaper price to provide for their addiction. "They used to sell the mobile phones for Rs 800 or so and would generate money for drugs from it," said Somvir Singh, SHO, GRP, Ghaziabad.
According to the officers, the police were on a lookout for these miscreants for months now.
