A highly patronised and successful train has been reduced to a low priority one by introduction of dynamic fare and inconvenient timings, drawing widespread criticism from passengers on social media.
“What is the use of running an originating special train from Visakhapatnam to Bengaluru, if it does not cater to the needs of passengers from both Vizag and Bengaluru?” is the common criticism.
It’s learnt that ECoR, SR and South Central Railway have discussed the issue at a recent meeting in Chennai and are planning to revise the timings. In all likelihood, a
decision is likely to be taken in regard, at a meeting to be held in Delhi on May 23.
It may be recalled that the South Western Railway (SWR) had initially operated a special train to Visakhapatnam from Bengaluru, on the demand of thousands of Telugu people from Vizag region, living in Bengaluru. The express special train was overbooked and was highly successful due to its convenient timings.
The East Coast Railway (ECoR) literally put a spoke in its wheel by telling SWR that it would operate the special train on its own. The timings of Visakhapatnam-Krishanarajapuram special were initially fixed for departure from Vizag at 4.45 p.m. and arrival at KRPM at 11 a.m. and for departure at 3.40 p.m. at KRPM and arrival at 9.30 a.m. in Vizag.
The ECoR train continued to have a good run with high patronage. Later, the timings were revised to leave Visakhapatnam at 7 p.m. and reach KRPM at 2 p.m. and to leave KRPM at 5.10 p.m. and arrive in Visakhapatnam at 12.25 p.m. Despite the change in timings, the train had good patronage as it was the only originating train to Bengaluru from Visakhapatnam.
The premium tatkal special train was converted into a Suvidha Special with dynamic fare. Passengers cursed the railways as even 3 AC fare on this train was more than airline fare from Vizag to Bengaluru. To rub salt on the wounds of passengers, the timings of the train 02877 VSKP KJM Suvidha were revised to leave Visakhapatnam at 5.30 a.m. and reach KRPM at 11 p.m. and train 02878 KJM VSKP Suvidha would leave at 1 a.m. and arrive in Vizag at 6 p.m.
Passengers have been lambasting the ECoR on social media for its unfair decisions. It’s learnt that the timings were fixed to synchronise them with the Bbs-KJM Suvidha Special.
