Indian Railways has instructed Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES) to prepare a detailed project report for the same within a period of six months. The first stretch of the project is to be implemented within three years.
“We would be very closely associated with RITES as they would collect all the required data after which we would together do the analysis of the sufficiently high clientele sectors where Maglev can be implemented,” Nitin Chowdhary, executive director, mechanical engineering (development), Ministry of
Railways told Live Mint.
Maglev trains run at speeds ranging from 350 kmph to 500 kmph. The Japan Maglev train that reached a speed of 600 kmph holds the current record for highest speed. Magnetic levitation technology allows the train to run without touching the ground and it remains elevated at 1 to 6 inches above the ground through a system of magnets, thereby eliminating friction. Chowdhary added that the notion about this project being expensive is not true. Railways has been in talks with several experts in the industry and it seems to be economically viable.

The project will be implemented on a PPP (public-private partnership) basis. It will be guided by a core incubator group with a mandate to develop Maglevs. The Ministry of Railways had released a call for expression of interest for the project in July this year. According to reports, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) is in talks with the Zurich-based company SwissRapide AG for the same.

better work on speedy execution of metro trains in cities identified for metro connectivity..... 2500kms of tracks need complete change every year, with a backlog of 40k kms... and govt thought it would be more wise to spend the money on maglev than passenger safety

lets not get overly critical :)

Metro Rail dekhiye Mumbai ki ghaate mein chal rahi hai jaha tak mujhe pata hai. Smaller cities mein metro ka construction bhi chaalu hai. Pata nahin yeh log survey mein cost recovery dekhte bhi hai ya nahin.

govt of india has 1.2 lac crores of money collected as safety surcharge idling in its coffers, how many more lives will it take for the PM to wake up ? may be because railway safety does not generate enough TRP.

High speed Rail corridor and Maglev projects are foreign assisted developmental projects under which developed countries provide loans to developing nations at nominal interest rates for infrastructural development. Funds which are received under FAD scheme can't be used on other projects like modernization of existing infrastructure or any thing else. So, if any country receives any loan under FAD scheme then it will have to spend that money on that project only on the name of which the loan has been taken so even Govt. is now bound to complete these projects.

50% trains 50 ka speed pakadti nahi and maglev . Bhartiya railway ki ek aur khyali pulao wali peskash . Jitna expense delhi to agra maglev banane me hoga utna me sara existing overloaded routes ki doubling tripling ho jayegi .
