Railways on Saturday 23 May, clarified the situation regarding the operations of trains. Railway Board Chairman Vinod Kumar Yadav said that 45 lakh migrant workers have travelled so far in the special trains started from May 1. Of these, 80% of the workers were from UP-Bihar. He told that in order to normalise the conditions of train operations, 2600 trains will be operated in the next 10 days and over 36 lakh migrant workers will travel in these trains. Railway officials explained the roadmap for rail transportation in a 45 minute press conference.
CRB Yadav said that 2600 trains will be operated in the next 10 days. These shramik special trains from Andhra Pradesh to Assam, Andhra Pradesh to Bihar, Delhi to
Chhattisgarh, Delhi to Gujarat, Goa to Jammu and Kashmir, Gujarat to Karnataka Haryana to Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir to Kerala, Karnataka to Manipur, Kerala to Odisha, Madhya Pradesh to Rajasthan, Maharashtra to Uttarakhand, Punjab to Uttarakhand, Rajasthan to Tripura, Tamil Nadu to Uttar Pradesh, Telangana to West Bengal. Apart from these, trains will be operated for Tripura, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. More than 200 Shramik Special trains are running daily.
He informed that 100 pairs Mail/Express trains will be operated from June 1. Passengers will be able to get reservation for advance 30 days. Permission has been given to RAC i.e. Reservation Against Cancellation in these trains. The passengers of the waiting list will not be able to do the journey. Only 30% tickets of special trains to be operated from 1 June booked, 190 trains still have availability," said Vinod Kumar Yadav. Bookings for these trains had commenced from 21 May.
The Chairman of the Railway Board said that the centre is paying 85% of the expenses of Shramik Special trains. The State is paying 15% fare of migrant workers. As far as special trains like Rajdhani operated, we did not charge much. The fare is the same as it used to be before the lockdown. During lockdown, the concession for the senior citizens had ended.
