Double line will be available for Railways in 602 km in the Thiruvananthapuram Central-Kottayam-Mangaluru Junction corridor with the commissioning of the 8-km Kuruppantara-Ettumanur double line stretch soon. if the CRS gives the nod for the 8-km line, Railways will take up the work in the Ettumanur yard in April after getting the nod. Rail traffic along the doubled corridor will be possible only after April. Once the stretch is commissioned, 96 km of the 114 km from Kayamkulam to Ernakulam will become double line. Railways are knocking at the doors of the State government for the 3.5 hectares needed from the State for doubling of the Ettumanur-Kottayam and Kottayam-Chingavanam corridors. A top railway official told The Hindu that ₹90 crore was deposited with the State way back in 2017 as the cost of land acquisition. “We were told in January that year that the land would be handed over in May 2018 and it is unlikely to happen even in May 2019. The land acquisition is moving at a snail’s pace. It may take two years to complete the doubling works in the 18 km once the land is handed over by the State to us,” he added. As many as five bridges have to be constructed in the Ettumanur-Kottayam and Kottayam-Chingavanum corridors.
Mar 15 2019 (22:17) I still remember my frequent visit to Calicut/Kozhikode during 2006-2008, when doubling had just started there & locals were telling that it might never be completed thanks to the apathy from state govt & land acquisition issues in Kerala

Agree to what you said. But i feel that so many stretches of doubling electrification has not had much impact in terms of reduction of travel time etc. Hoping that TVC divn and PGT division look into this aspect as well
