PATNA: The
has suffered a revenue loss of Rs 2.39crore due to cancellation of tickets by passengers owing to the Covid-19 scare.
Danapur DRM Sunil Kumar said, “Around 43,266 people cancelled their tickets between March 1 and March 16 and got refunds from the passenger reservation system (PRS) counters located at various places in the division. The railways has so far refunded about Rs 2.39 crore in the past 16 days.”

As advised by the Railway Board, the East Central Railway (ECR) has increased platform ticket rate from Rs10 to Rs50 per person from March 19 midnight at 13 stations of Danapur division — Patna Junction, Danapur, Rajendra Nagar Terminal, Pataliputra Junction, Patna Sahib, Bakhtiarpur, Barh, Ara, Buxar, Mokama, Jehanabad, Biharsharif and Rajgir.
Kumar said, “The railways took this decision to reduce huge gathering of people on platforms at a time when the deadly Covid-19 has been declared a pandemic.”
He added, “This temporary hike in platform ticket rate will check unnecessary entry of people who are visiting railway platforms either to receive or see off their relatives at the stations.”
Patna Junction gets about one lakh passengers every day. As many as 280 pairs of passenger trains either originate or pass through Danapur division every day. “Rajendra Nagar Terminal, Pataliputra Junction and Danapur are other major stations of the division where passenger rush has of late increased,” he said, adding, Buxar, Ara, Mokama, Rajgir and Jehanabad are other places where maximum precautionary measures are being taken.
According to ECR chief PRO Rajesh Kumar, railways has started using thermal scanners at its headquarters in Hajipur for all its officials and employees as a precautionary measure. “Hand sanitizers are provided at each entry point of the ECR headquarters,” he said, adding, railways has issued an ‘dos and don’ts’ advisory to every divisional office in the zone on the Covid-19 scare.
Platform ticket price hiked to Rs 50 at 50 railway stations: The East Central Railway (ECR) has decided to increase platform ticket price from Rs10 to Rs50 per person at 50 stations under its jurisdiction from Thursday midnight to discourage unnecessary gathering of people on railway platforms due to Covid-19 scare. The number of these 50 stations included 13 stations under the Danapur division.
According to ECR chief public relations officer (CPRO) Rajesh Kumar, railways has increased platform ticket price at Pt Deendayal Upadhyaya Junction, Gaya, Sasaram, Dehri-on-Sone, Anugrah Narayan Road and Bhabhua Road under Mughalsarai division, Dhanbad, Gomoh, Singrauli, Parasnath, Koderma, Daltonganj, Chandrapura, Barkakana, Garhwah Road, Renukut and Chopan under Dhanbad division of the ECR, he said.
Similarly, platform ticket price has been increased to Rs50 per person at Muzaffarpur, Barauni, Hajipur, Khagaria, Sonepur, Begusarai, Mansi and Naugachia under Sonepur division and at Saharsa, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Raxaul, Laheriasarai, Sitamarhi, Bapudham Motihari, Bettiah, Jaynagar, Narkatiaganj, Sagauli and Madhubani stations, the CPRO said.
