BHOPAL: If scrapping old Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes was a bane for some, it turned out to be a boon for railways. If sources are to be believed, Bhopal division has earned Rs 9.88 crore, including Rs 2 crore from November alone this fiscal. Last year, revenue from ticket sale for the corresponding period was much below at Rs 7.70 crore.
Going by records of Bhopal division, there were over 1.99 lakhs reservations in November last year, again 2.23 lakh bookings made, enabling railways to earn more revenue, informed I A Siddiqui, spokesperson for Bhopal rail division. Sources attribute more revenue to acceptability of the demonetised notes by the railways till November 24.
day after demonetization, bookings from Habibganj railway station saw a rise of 151%.
