A youth, Akash Gaikwad, from Chembur lay face down on a railway crossing near Aurangabad station for a selfie on Monday, even having a few coaches pass over him.
The driver had applied the brakes on spotting Gaikwad (25) on the tracks but the train couldn't grind to a halt immediately. Fortunately for Gaikwad, he escaped unhurt. Clearly not amused by Gaikwad's antics, railway staffers at the crossing and passersby pulled him out from under the train and handed him over to the Railway Protection Force (RPF). The RPF arrested him on charges of attempt to suicide and under sections 147 (trespassing) and 174 (halting a train) of the Railway Act. He was subsequently released on bail. RPF officials said Gaikwad had
come to Aurangabad to visit his sister. Around 8am, he went near the crossing and began taking a few selfies. After seeing the Jalna-Demu train arriving, he lay face down on the tracks in an attempt to take a selfie. However, in the scramble, his cellphone fell from his hands but he stayed put on the tracks.
