Electrification of 39,866 kilometres of Indian Railways routes is complete as of 1st April 2020. Piyush Goyal, Minister for Railways, stated this in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.

pace of electrification has picked up over the past three years as the transporter has decided to electrify 100% of its railway lines.

The Central Organization for Railway Electrification (CORE) had targeted electrification of 4,056 km of route in this financial year. It is unclear if the targets will be met considering the delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Total Broad Gauge (BG) Route kilometre (RKM) Indian Railways (including Konkan Railway) is 63,631.

As on 1st April .2020, 39,866 route km has been electrified.

Ministry of Railways has planned for 100% electrification of Broad Gauge (BG) routes by December, 2023 as per following planning:-

Allocation of funds for Electrification projects are allocated Project wise not zone wise. Budget allocation of recent past and current year is as under:

To expedite electrification of railway lines in the country, various steps have been taken, including award of large size Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) contracts, better project monitoring mechanism and decentralization of powers to field units.

This information was given by the Minister of Railways and Commerce & Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha today.

Electrification Railway transportation mode is the best Energy saving mode with Pollution free.
Its electricity have to be derived from Wind Farms / Solar Energy / Sea waves etc of renewable energy sources. Then its 100% termed as Environmental friendly mode .
