LUCKNOW: Scores of passengers whose trains were cancelled because of fog had a tough time getting refund as ticket counters in Charbagh ran out of cash and many had to go back empty-handed even after standing in queue for hours. Officials said they had sent their requirement to the RBI but didn't get adequate amount. Ticket cancellation counters were abuzz with activity from Friday evening till Saturday .
As news of trains cancellation spread among passengers bound for different states and cities, they rushed to Charbagh and Hazratganj divisional railway manager (DRM) office's cancellation counters but were told to come the next day after cancellation while others were told to wait till cash arrived.
Abhinav Srivastava was told to wait for three hours for refund. "I had booked my tickets for Patna in November and on Saturday I came to know the train had been cancelled and when I reached the cancellation counter, they asked me to wait for three hours as there was cash shortage. When I approached the window again, they cancelled my ticket but asked me to come back at 7pm to collect the refund amount citing currency crisis," said Abhinav . "I came to know about the train cancellation from my elder brother and rushed to Charbagh station to cancel my ticket for Howrah, where I had to join classes from December 12," said Jigyasa Tyagi, adding, "When I reached the counter, I was asked to come for refund on Saturday as the counter was short of cash. When I came on Saturday , they asked me to wait for 30 minutes as they were cashless but eventually refunded." Sudhakant Jha queued to cancel his ticket to Patna outside DRM office in Hazratganj at 11am. On reaching the counter, he requested for cancellation of ticket but was told to come at 5pm for cancellation due to cash crisis. "We seldom face cash related problems but since lower denomination notes are in shortage these days, we are also facing some difficulty," said senior divisional commercial manager of northern railway Shivendra Shukla.
