AGRA: In a grim reminder of deadly I ndore-Patna Express derailment in which over 150 people were dead, on Tuesday morning Patna-Kota Express suffered a head-on-collision with handcar on which four railway employees were inspecting the rail track.
The accident took place at around 9am between Kitham and Farah stations. Fortunately, not a single casualty was reported and neither anyone was injured.
According to Mathura government railway police, at around 8:45am, when Patna-Kota Express was heading for Mathura station from Agra cantt, four railway men were inspecting rail track. "When they saw the
train heading towards them, they stopped their handcar and tried to move it from the track but failed and left the car on track. The speeding train collided with the handcar and smashed it into pieces before heading for Mathura."
The loco pilot of the train applied the emergency brakes, but could not averted the collision, creating a sense of fear among passengers, claimed a railway employee.
Speaking to TOI, additional divisional railway manager of Agra, D K Singh, denied any such incident and said, "Our men were checking the tracks, but no such incident took place."
