A delegation of residents, traders and representatives of consumer organisations has appealed to Divisional Railway Manager Sunil Kumar Garg to order halting of more trains at Koodal Nagar railway station, which was now grossly under-utilised.
In a memorandum submitted to the DRM recently, the delegation, led by N. Govindarajan, vice-president, Railar Nagar People’s Welfare Association, suggested that some services like Coimbatore-Nagercoil, Tirunelveli-Erode-Mayiladuthurai and Tiruchendur-Palghat passenger trains be halted at Koodal Nagar.
This could be followed up by halting of Tiruchi-Tirunelveli Intercity Express and Guruvayur-Chennai Express. According to a press release, the delegation also felt
that Pandiyan and Vaigai Express trains could be stopped at Koodal Nagar in the down direction. The move, the delegation felt, would ease congestion at Madurai junction and on the city roads.
