PUNE: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Pune division has appealed to passengers to contact the helpline numbers in emergency cases of theft or pickpocketing.
The RPF has said that the helpline numbers have been displayed at all prominent locations in the station premises including platforms, eateries and also in trains for the benefit of the passengers.
The officials in RPF said they have been acting tough against offenders. In a recent case, the RPF squad caught a minor involved in pickpocketing in local trains. The RPF squad, which was deployed in trains,
initiated action in a local train between Akurdi and Chinchwad stations against a minor and recovered a stolen purse containing valuables and documents. The case was handed over to the local unit of Government Railway Police (GRP) for further investigation.
RPF has said that it has deployed additional staff in local trains to ensure safer travel. The squads are told to take up vigil round-the-clock in running trains and also at prominent stations like Pune station, Shivajinagar, Chinchwad, Akurdi, Talegaon and Dehuroad. The RPF has appealed to the passengers to remain alert during journey especially during rush hours. The suburban passengers have been demanding deployment of more police staff in trains during night hours.
