Hundreds of railway men affiliated to Southern Railway Mazdoor Union staged a demonstration here pressing for a charter of demands including increase in minimum pay under the 7th Central Pay Commission.
The protest was led by union divisional secretary J.M. Rafi. The agitators demanded that the new pension scheme be withdrawn and the Union government should ensure guaranteed pension. The union also sought restoration of all 52 allowances abolished by the 7th CPC. It also wanted special allowances to all track maintainers, controllers, loco and traffic running staff.
The agitators demanded dropping of
conditions laid down for increment and promotions.
