A unique awareness drive called "YAMRAJ CAMPAIGN" was organised by the Railway Protection Force of Western Railway for creating awareness on anti - trespassing. This campaign has been conducted as part of the weeklong celebration of the 36th Raising Day of Railway Protection Force of Western Railway. This campaign has been organised to spread awareness amongst Mumbaikars against the dangerous and fatal social evil of crossing the railway tracks. Accordingto a press release issued by Shri Sumit Thakur - Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Rly, the campaign was conducted to sensitize public and make them aware against trespassing. It was organised at vulnerable locations in suburban section such as Bandra, Andheri, Ram Mandir,Malad andBorivalistations.An RPF staff dressed as Yamraj sensitized people on platforms as well as the slum dwellers nearby to the railway tracks to avoid the practice of trespassing which is dangerous to their own lives. This campaign aims to instill a sense of psychological fear among trespassers.
Shri Thakur stated that RPF is regularly organising such intensive awareness campaigns and registering cases under the Railway Act against trespassers. As a result, the number of trespassing cases is continuously reducing over the years. The average number of death and injury cases per day due to trespassing has remarkably reduced in suburban section. Western Railway is taking all possible efforts to curb the menace of trespassing. Additional Foot Over Bridges (FOBs), Subways, Escalators & Lifts have been provided at various locations. Also, new boundary walls have been constructed along the railway tracks & the gaps in old boundary walls have been filled up to prevent trespassing. Many awareness campaigns are relayed through radio jingles on Public Announcement System and Nukkad Nataks. Web cards, slogans and videos on social media platforms are also being given widespread publicity on this topic. Western Railway has urged public to avoid trespassing and be a responsible citizen.
