JAIPUR: After Rajasthan state roadways corporation (RSRTC) measures to promote cashless transactions, North Western railways (NWR) is all set to procure and install swipe machine at its major railway stations in the state.
Passengers would be able to book reserved tickets for various classes with the help of card swipe machines to be installed at 51 stations of four divisions of NWR. All these machines would be installed by December 31. In the next phase people in Rajasthan would be able to get unreserved tickets too by swiping their debit and credit cards.
Tuesday RSRTC had started the facility of ticket booking by swiping debit cards and credit cards at e-Mitra and Atal Sewa Kendras in the state.
"At some of the stations it has already been started. We are planning to install 78 machines at 51 major railway stations of the North Western railways to facilitate the passengers willing to book their tickets with the help of debit card and credit card," said Tarun Jain, chief public relations officer, NWR on Wednesday.
"In the first phase we are aiming at starting this facility for the passengers willing to book reserved tickets in mail/express, super-fast, Rajdhani and Shatabdi Express trains while in the second phase we will expand this facility for booking unreserved tickets too," Jain added.
Out of the total 78, the authorities have already installed 37 machines so far. "The stations like Jaipur will get 6 machines while Ajmer will get 5 machines to start with. Other stations like Aburoad and others will get 1 or 2 machines," said a senior officer.
NWR has given a deadline of December 31 to its four divisions including -Ajmer, Bikaner, Jodhpur and Jaipur to install these swipe machines.
