The State police are taking adequate precautionary measures to prevent any untoward incident on the anniversary of the Babri Masjid’s demolition, Director General of Police T.K. Rajendran said here on Sunday.
Mr. Rajendran, who reviewed the functioning of the police with senior officials of the South Zone here, however, declined to comment on the recent arrests of five terror suspects, reportedly belonging to the Base Movement, in Madurai and Chennai.
The arrests were carried out in connection with bomb blasts in five court complexes in southern States.

a specific question on the National Investigation Agency’s (NIA) claim that Madurai continued to remain hyper-sensitive with respect to its terror links, Mr. Rajendran said that only the agency should clarify on that. Police sources said the DGP had asked the officials to take additional precautions, including providing security to railway tracks, trains and vital installations during the masjid demolition anniversary. The officials were also apprised of the fact that minorities may be aggrieved over the recent arrests of terror suspects and gunning down of SIMI activists in an encounter in Bhopal in October 2016.
The Inspector General of Police - South Zone, Commissioners of Police for Madurai and Tirunelveli city, Deputy Inspector Generals and Superintendents of Police participated in the meeting.
