A group of activists have sent a memorandum to the Union Government with 1.18 lakh signatures of people from Dharapuram, Vellakoil and Kangayam areas asking for full budgetary allocation to expeditiously complete Erode-Palani (via Dharapuram and Kangayam) new railway project.
Ashraf Ali, an activist who coordinated the campaign, told reporters here that the representation was to remind the Railway Ministry about the project, as a mere Rs. 85 crore got allocated for the project from 2005 against the total estimated outlay of nearly Rs. 500 crore.
now, allocations were made in a piecemeal manner. About Rs. 2 crore was allotted for preliminary survey in 2005 Railway Budget,” he said.
According to the people in the belt, the Union Government has not been showing much interest in the project though its commissioning would not only improve trade but also tourism in the area.
