Surat: Visiting the Surat railway station could be a memorable experience for one and all.
A mega-beautification drive has started at the city's railway station by the Israel-based leading diamond machine manufacturer, Sarin Technologies India Limited under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
Each of the four platforms, walkways, bridges and entrance on both the sides of the station are being cleaned, painted and beautified with murals and artwork by over 70 artists including students and the artists from the Sarin company.
60 spots at the railway station including ramps, walls, pillars, walkways, etc., have been identified to be painted with beautiful theme-based paintings depicting the rich history of Surat and the vibrancy of the city's textile and diamond industries.
A giant painting of Dandi March has been painted at the walkway of the platform number 4 giving a different feeling to those visiting the railway station. In October, railway minister Suresh Prabhu kicked off the 'Hamara Station Hamari Shaan' initiative, which entailed the beautification of 36 Mumbai suburban stations.
DRM Western Railway, Mukul Jain said, "We have given the Surat railway station beautification work to Sarin Technologies as part of their CSR activity. WR has been encouraging the corporates to spend their CSR for such social causes."
"This is the first ever attempt by a private firm to beautify the railway station. The beautification drive is likely to go on for about a month and it will change the entire look of the railway station," said Ajit Gauswami of Sarin Technologies India Private Limited.
Gauswami added, "We are painting each and every pillar at the railway station and at the platform. This will give a different look altogether to the visitors."
