The first-ever train from Barkakana to Hazaribagh will be flagged off by chief minister Raghubar Das on December 7, fulfilling a longstanding demand of people in the region.
The chief minister will flag off the five-bogey Koderma-Hazaribagh-Barkakana passenger train from Hazaribagh station at 4.30pm, also inaugurating the 57.14km railway tracks between Barkakana and Hazaribagh under East Central Railway.
Union railway minister Suresh Prabhu will watch the proceedings via videoconference from Delhi while Union minister of state for civil aviation Jayant Sinha, Hazaribagh sadar MLA Manish Jaiswal and representatives from municipal corporation and zilla
parishad will attend the event.
The passenger train will travel Up and down twice in a day to cover 136.74km from Koderma to Barkakana via Hazaribagh. The Koderma-Hazaribagh-Barkakana commute will take around four hours and 30 minutes.
Barkakana-bound trains will start from Koderma at 6am and at 12.50pm. Koderma-bound trains will start from Barkakana at 6am and 6pm.
A battery of railway officials led by divisional railway manager (DRM) of Dhanbad division Manoj Krishna Akhouri reached Hazaribagh on Friday for a recce for the grand December 7 flag-off.
Calling the 57.14km new stretch very important, Akhouri said work had started for its electrification.
Hazaribagh was connected with Koderma on February 20, 2015, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 80km stretch. It has passenger and goods train plying daily. The long-delayed 200km Ranchi-Hazaribagh-Koderma rail route looks likely to start next year.
