Indian Railways (IR) is planning to run private freight trains along dedicated corridors. This comes as the Railways is geared up for private passenger trains, a process which was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Encouraged by the enthusiastic response to private passenger trains, the Railways is looking at private freight trains as well. For this, it is fast-tracking auctioning of routes in under-completion dedicated freight corridors (DFCs) to private players, as per a report by The Economic Times.
The United States is a living example of how disastrous an idea can this possibly be.

In a major jolt to the Centre’s ambitious plans to push spending in major infrastructure sectors, the Indian Railways, one of the key contributors to the nation’s economy, has sought the finance ministry’s urgent intervention as it cannot meet its pension expenditure of Rs 53,000 crores for 2020-21, and urged North Block to take over its pension liability for this fiscal year. Indian Railways has around 13 lakh employees and roughly 15 lakh pensioners.
* It is not possible to ban unions as they owe their existence to certain provisions in our laws.
* Unions must take care of genuine needs and issues of workers on one hand and on the other hand should motivate its members to work as per the needs of their organisation as well as of customers. But this seldom happens.
* Govt. organisations are suffering from 2 inherent problems which are amongst major reasons for their below par financial/general performance:
