64-year-old man from Mumbai with a travel history to Dubai on Tuesday became the third casualty of novel coronavirus infection in India, as the number of cases in the country surged to over 139.
As panic surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic continued, states and Union Territories like West Bengal, Puducherry and Haryana all reported their first positive cases on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Tuesday said private NABL-accredited laboratories will soon be allowed to conduct tests for COVID-19 to enhance capacity for diagnosis.

KILLS 3 IN INDIA
Three persons infected with the virus have died so far, the latest casualty being a 64-year-old man from Mumbai with a travel history to Dubai who succumbed on Tuesday.
While a 76-year-old man from Kalaburagi who returned from Saudi Arabia died last Tuesday, a 68-year-old woman in Delhi who had tested positive for coronavirus passed away at the Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital on Friday night.
CASES CONTINUE TO RISE
The cases include 24 foreign nationals and the three persons who died in Delhi, Karnataka and Maharashtra.
Delhi has so far reported eight positive cases while Uttar Pradesh has recorded 15 cases, including one foreigner.
Maharashtra has 40 cases, including 3 foreigners, while Kerala has recorded 26 cases which include two foreign nationals.
Karnataka has 11 coronavirus patients. Ladakh has reported six cases while Jammu and Kashmir three. Telangana has reported five cases which include two foreigners.
Rajasthan has also reported four cases including that of two foreigners. Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Punjab have reported one case each.

In Haryana, there are 15 cases, which include fourteen foreigners, while Uttarakhand has reported one case.
The first novel coronavirus confirmed case of Indian Army jawan in Ladakh was reported on Tuesday.
The Indian Army jawan from Ladakh Scouts yesterday tested positive for the Covid-19. The jawan's father had returned from a pilgrimage in Iran which is severely affected by the novel coronavirus.
According to the ministry's data, 14 people have been discharged so far, including the three patients from Kerala who were discharged last month.
STATES REPORT FIRST CASES
An 18-year-old man, who recently returned from England, tested positive for novel coronavirus on Tuesday, making it the first confirmed case in West Bengal, a senior official of the state government said.
A 68-year old woman has tested positive for coronavirus in Mahe region of Puducherry, becoming the first confirmed case in the union territory.
In Haryana, a 29-year-old woman from Gurugram who had recently travelled to Malaysia and Indonesia tested positive.
GURUGRAM STRESSES WORK FROM HOME
The Gurgaon administration on Tuesday advised all multinational companies, IT firms, industries and corporate offices here to allow their staff to work from home till March 31 amid coronavirus outbreak.
Deputy Commissioner of Gurgaon Amit Khatri said that it is only an advisory and "not any directive or order".
UP EXTENDS 'SHUTDOWN' TILL APRIL 2
To contain the coronavirus spread, the Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday extended the closure of all educational institutions, cinemas, multiplexes and tourists places in the state till April 2 and implemented work-from-home protocol to the extent possible.
Competitive and other examinations, too, have been postponed till April 2.
All tourists places, cinemas and multiplexes will remain closed till then.
RAILWAYS CANCELS TRAINS, HIKES PLATFORM TICKET FEES
Railways has cancelled 85 trains as a precaution against the spread of coronavirus and due to low occupancy, officials said on Tuesday.
It has also issued a set of guidelines to zonal railways for its catering staff stating no employee having fever, cough, runny nose or difficulty in breathing "should be deployed in the business of food handling on Indian Railways".
According to officials, central railways cancelled 23 trains, south-central railways cancelled 29 trains, western railways cancelled 10 trains, southeastern railways cancelled 9 trains, east coast and northern railways cancelled 5 trains each, and northwestern railways cancelled 4 trains.
All railway zones have been advised to hike the platform tickets from Rs 10 to Rs 50 in a bid to discourage gathering of large crowds in view of the coronavirus pandemic.
N-E CANCELS INNER LINE PERMITS
Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur governments on Tuesday stopped issuing temporary and provisional Inner Line Permit (ILP) as part of its measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
ILP is a mandatory official document issued by the government allowing inward travel of domestic visitors.
INDIANS ABROAD IN CORONA CRISIS
The government on Tuesday closed its doors to those from Afghanistan, the Philippines and Malaysia with immediate effect.
However, it approved AirAsia flights for Delhi and Vizag to help Indians stranded at Kuala Lumpur airport due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Media reports said over 200 Indians, mostly students, were stuck at Kuala Lumpur Airport due to the coronavirus outbreak in the country.
Meanwhile, the External Affairs Ministry officials on Tuesday said they cannot confirm whether more than 250 Indians in Iran have tested positive for novel coronavirus but acknowledged that they were aware of such a list of people being circulated.
According to an Indian pilgrim stuck in Iran, 254 of 850 Indian travellers in the country have tested positive for Covid-19.
SHAHEEN BAGH UNDETERRED BY CORONA
Officials from police and Southeast district administration visited Shaheen Bagh on Tuesday and urged the anti-CAA protestors to vacate the area in the wake of coronavirus outbreak.
Police said that they held a meeting on Monday also regarding the same issue but nothing came out of it.
PUBS SHUT, LOCALS RUNNING IN MUMBAI
The Mumbai Police has been asked to shut pubs, dance bars, discotheques and similar establishments in the city till March 31 in view of the coronavirus outbreak.
The police have also issued prohibitory orders under CrPC section 144 to private tour operators who organise sightseeing or other kinds of tours through the city, asking them to suspend their operations till March 31.
The Maharashtra government is not currently considering shutting down Mumbai's local train or bus services. However, CM Uddhav Thackeray added that his government could be forced to take the harsh decision of shutting down local train and bus services if people do not refrain from non-essential travel.
TAJ MAHAL, STATUE OF UNITY CLOSED
India closed the Taj Mahal, its principal tourist site as well as the Statue of Unity in increased measures to curb the coronavirus in South Asia.
Along with the Taj Mahal, dozens of other monuments and museums including the Ajanta and Ellora caves and religious sites such as Mumbai’s Siddhivinayak Temple were closed.
The Gujarat government on Tuesday banned the entry of tourists at the Statue of Unity in Narmada district till March 25 and also directed hotels and restaurants to avoid hosting large functions in view of the coronavirus threat.
TEMPLES TOO TAKE PRECAUTIONS
The main Tibetan temple Tsuglhakhang temple, which is situated in Dharamshala's McLeodganj area has been closed for the public in view of the coronavirus pandemic.
The renowned Baba Balak Nath temple at Deotsidh in Himachal Pradesh's Hamirpur district was also closed indefinitely.
Two famous temples in Nashik district of Maharashtra, including Trimbakeshwar, will remain closed for devotees from March 18.
In the wake of coronavirus scare, the SGPC on Tuesday said the use of hand sanitisers for devotees visiting the Golden Temple has been made mandatory.
Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) also asked pilgrims to put off their visit to the famous cave temple in view of coronavirus scare.
PUNJAB, RAJASTHAN, KASHMIR VALLEY GO UNDER LOCKDOWN
Taking more stringent steps in the wake of the coronavirus scare, the Punjab government on Tuesday ordered the closure of all malls, shopping complexes and 'kisan mandis' in the state till March 31.
It has also decided to restrict the gathering at marriage palaces to 50 people only.

The Rajasthan government on Tuesday banned all gatherings at public places exceeding 50 people till March 31.
The Srinagar district administration announced a slew of additional measures, including plans of televised classes for students, to ensure that there is no outbreak of coronavirus in the city and the Valley. The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Tuesday barred foreign tourists from entering the Union Territory as a precautionary measure.
ECONOMY, CORONAVIRUS WILL DOUBLY HIT INDIA: RAHUL GANDHI
Asserting that an "economic tsunami" was coming, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said India should be preparing itself not just to fight the coronavirus but also for the economic devastation that would affect crores of people.
"I have been warning the government that a massive (economic) tsunami is coming and they are fooling about, they are not clear about what to do. India should be preparing itself not just for Covid-19 virus but for the economic devastation that is coming," he said.
MINISTER, SINGER, ACTOR GO UNDER QUARANTINE
Union Minister V Muraleedharan, who visited a Kerala-based medical institute whose hospital later reported a coronavirus case, has placed himself under home quarantine as a precaution even as he tested negative for the infection.
Veteran devotional singer Anup Jalota on Tuesday said he is in isolation at a Mumbai hotel as a preventive measure after he went to Europe for a concert.
Legendary actor Dilip Kumar also said he is under "complete isolation and quarantine" as a precautionary measure against the novel coronavirus pandemic.

BENGALURU: In a heart-wrenching incident, a 28-year-old software engineer, who had gone to bid his home-bound parents goodbye, was killed after he fell off the moving train and came under it at Carmelaram railway station, east Bengaluru, on Monday night. The youth’s father too sustained injuries as he jumped out on noticing his son was sucked under the train.
Byappanahalli police said Vikram Vijayan, a resident of Sector 3, HSR Layout and employed with Wipro, died instantly. His father, Vijayan Chakkingal, 65, a retired technician and resident of Kanjikode, Palakkad district, Kerala, has been admitted to a private hospital near Marathahalli.
Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh: A pregnant woman was allegedly strangled to death on a train for objecting to a co-passenger smoking, a senior railway official said.
On Friday night, Chinat Devi, 45, was travelling with her family in the general bogey of Punjab-Bihar Jallianwala Express when she objected to a co-passenger, identified as Sonu Yadav, smoking, the GRP police station In-charge, Shahjahanpur, AK Pandey said.

नई दिल्ली : अगर आप भी भारतीय रेलवे के फ्लैक्सी फेयर सिस्टम से परेशान हैं और पिछले दिनों संसदीय समिति की तरफ से आए बयान के बाद आपको कुछ राहत मिलने की उम्मीद बंधी थी तो यह खबर आपको झटका दे सकती है. दरअसल पिछले दिनों संसदीय समिति ने प्रीमियम ट्रेनों में हवाई यात्रा से भी ज्यादा किराया वसूलने को लेकर इंडियन रेलवे की आलोचना की थी. अतिरिक्त किराया रेलवे की तरफ से पिछले दिनों शुरू किए गए फ्लेक्सी फेयर सिस्टम के तहत लिया जा रहा है. संसदीय समिति की तरफ से इस सिस्टम की आलोचना किए जाने के बाद उम्मीद की जा रही थी कि फ्लेक्सी फेयर सिस्टम वापस लिया जा सकता है.

रेलवे फ्लेक्सी फेयर सिस्टम को खत्म करने के मूड में नहीं लग रहा. रेलवे की तरफ से मंगलवार को साफ किया गया कि फ्लेक्सी फेयर सिस्टम को वापस लेने का कोई मूड नहीं है. हालांकि यह उम्मीद की जा रही है कि रेलवे की इस स्कीम में कुछ बदलाव किया जा सकता है. न्यू इंडियन एक्सप्रेस में प्रकाशित खबर के अनुसार फ्लेक्सी फेयर सिस्टम को 168 प्रीमियम ट्रेनों में शुरू किया गया था. 9 सितंबर 2016 को इस स्कीम को राजधानी, शताब्दी और दुरंतो में शुरू किया गया था.
रेल मंत्री का अंतिम फैसला लेना बाकी
इस सिस्टम के तहत वित्तीय वर्ष 2016-17 (सितंबर से मार्च), 2017-18 और 2018-19 में अप्रैल से जून तक रेलवे ने क्रमश: 371, 860 और 262 करोड़ रुपये की अतिरिक्त कमाई की. रेलवे बोर्ड ने दिसंबर 2017 में फ्लेक्सी फेयर का का रिव्यू करने के लिए एक कमेटी का गठन किया. इस कमेटी ने फ्लेक्सी फेयर से यात्रियों और रेलवे रेवेन्यू पर पड़ने वाले असर का अध्ययन किया. कमेटी ने अपनी रिपोर्ट पेश कर दी लेकिन इसे कुछ बदलावों के लिए वापस भेज दिया गया. हालांकि अभी रेल मंत्री पीयूष गोयल का दोबारा आने वाली रिपोर्ट पर फैसला लेना बाकी है.
