In a bid to cover the fading MG line connecting Akola and Mhow, little did i know that i would be embarking on one more train journey which later became my last ever train journey of that kind in that train. The train in question here is the Karnataka Express and the kind of journey in question is the ride of KK behind twin ALCos. Starting with ET, then later moving on to MLY later to GTL, twin ALCos and Karnataka express have been an inseparable combo for a long time. It is definite that this combo has more fans across the Railfanning fraternity than many others.
Cutting straight to the journey, after exploring the Akola MG, i happened to come back
via Bhopal, from where i boarded the Karnataka Exp aka KK. It pulled in with an ET WAP4 which did a fairly good job depositing us in Manmad with marginal delay. Twin GTL WDM3Ds took over from here, both in contrasting liveries. The notch though was not visible clearly, but the acceleration could be felt. The twins were cutting loose wherever and whenever possible. The gradients between Manmad and Daund were negotiated with ease as were the curves.
Notable crossings in this stretch include, Jhelum Express, Pune Bilaspur Express, Pune Howrah Duronto & the 27hours late running Pune Varanasi Spl, with the latter not being covered. Post a fairly filling dinner at Daund, it was time to hit the sack. The authorities advised to keep the shutters down, owing to some notorious stone pelting incidents in the stretch that followed. When my eyes opened again, we were entering Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh. It was time to bid goodbye to the twin WDM3Ds and a fresh set of WDM3As took charge. For those of you who don't know, KK's loco sets were part of a huge LSA.
The new twins did good to help maintain the delay, instead of increasing it. Though we were looped for a couple of crossings, it was a merry run towards Bengaluru. The only menace were the unreserved passengers giving constant disturbance between Anantapur and Yelahanka. This could be seen in the Khandwa Manmad stretch as well. The food service somewhat stops on the morning of the third day. Sans the breakfast, nothing interesting was on offer. Well, can't complain, this train arrives Bengaluru at lunch time. Thanks to some speed restriction in the ghats, we reached Yelahanka 40mins late and when i alighted at Bengaluru Cantt. the train was 30mins late. Notable crossings include the Chennai SSPN express and the Mysore Jaipur Superfast Express.

नगर-कल्याण रेल्वेमार्ग सर्वेक्षणाचे काम पूर्ण; पैसा, वेळ वाचणार
नगर, पुणे व ठाणे या तीन जिल्ह्यांच्या ग्रामीण भागासह भविष्यात मराठवाड्यातील शेतकऱ्यांना वरदान ठरू शकणाऱ्या व तब्बल २२ वर्षांपेक्षा अधिक वर्षे रखडलेल्या नगर- माळशेजमार्गे- कल्याण रेल्वे मार्गाचे प्राथमिक तांत्रिक सर्वेक्षण मे महिन्यात पूर्ण झाले अाहे. या मार्गावर एकूण २६ रेल्वे स्थानके प्रस्तावित आहेत. जनतेबरोबरच रेल्वेच्या दृष्टीनेही फायद्यात दाखवण्यात आल्यामुळे अाता या रेल्वेमार्गाचे काम लवकरात लवकर मार्गी लागण्याची शक्यता आहे.
हा मार्ग सुरू झाल्यास नगर ते कल्याण अंतर रेल्वेने अवघ्या साडे तीन ते चार तासांत कापणे शक्य होणार आहे. मराठवाड्यातील जनताही नगरमार्गे खूप कमी वेळेत मुंबईला
जाऊन शकणार आहे. हा मार्ग नगर, ओतूर, माळशेज घाट, मुरबाड, अंबरनाथ व कल्याण असा जाणार आहे. सर्वेक्षण करणाऱ्यांनी हा रेल्वे मार्ग पूर्णतः फायद्यात असल्याचे सांगितल्याची माहिती समजली. सध्या या तांत्रिक सर्वेक्षणाचा प्राथमिक अहवाल आला असला, तरी अंतिम अहवाल तयार झाल्यानंतरच तो रेल्वे बोर्डासमोर मान्यतेसाठी ठेवला जाणार आहे. त्याला मान्यता मिळण्याची आता औपचारिकता बाकी आहे. माळशेज रेल्वे सुरू झाल्यानंतर ठाणे, पुणे व नगर जिल्ह्यातील ग्रामीण भागातील शेतकऱ्यांना मुंबईची बाजारपेठ जवळ येणार अाहे. त्यामुळे वाहतूक खर्च व वेळ याची बचत होणार आहे. शिवाय माल वाहतुकीचा नवीन पर्याय उपलब्ध होणार आहे. या पलीकडे नगर - औरंगाबादमार्गे पुढे विशाखापट्टणम हा मार्गदेखील जवळ होऊन जोडला जाऊ शकतो. त्यामुळे हा नवा माळशेज रेल्वे मार्ग ठाणे, पुणे व नगर या तिन्ही जिल्ह्यांसह मराठवाड्याच्या शेतकऱ्यांच्या विकासाचे नवीन पर्व घेऊन येणार आहे.
पैसा, वेळ वाचणार
नगर-बीड-परळी मार्गाचे काम जोरात सुरू आहे. त्याच्याबरोबर कल्याण रेल्वेमार्गही पूर्ण झाला, तर मराठवाड्यातील जनतेचा मुंबईला जाण्यासाठीचा वेळ व पैसा मोठ्या प्रमाणात वाचणार आहे. या शिवाय नगर, पुणेसह मराठवाड्यातील शेतमालही कमी वेळेत मुंबईला पोहाेचू शक

The editorial has highlighted many points as far as rail routes in Marathwada region are concerned.
- Start a new train from Parli to Mumbai via Latur, Osmanabad
- Kolhapur- Delhi to be diverted via Latur, Purna, Akola
- Patna- Purna train to be extended till Kurduwadi
Sriganganagar-Nanded express to be extended till Kurduwadi
- Parli- Purna express halts for 17 Hrs, if it can be extended till Solapur or Bidar, it would be a great relief for the passengers.
- There's a need to extend Adilabad- Parli train till Osmanabad
- Currently Kolhapur- Dhanbad goes via Pune- Nagar- Manmad- Aurangabad- Parbhani- Nanded- Nagpur, if it's diverted via Kurduwadi- Latur- Latur Road- Parli- Parbhani- Nanded- Nagpur, it will save approx 300 KM distance.
- There are 10 trains for Mumbai- Hyderabad via Solapur, if a couple of them can be diverted via Latur- Bidar route it would be great relief for the underdeveloped South Marathwada region.
- Similarly Kurla- Bidar runs only once a week, if it's regularized, there's no need to extend current Mumbai- Latur express till Bidar.
- Nanded- Kurla & Hyderabad- Latur- Osmanabad- Pune trains be run daily
- Demand for construction of a new BG line between Ghatnandur & Ambajogai in Beed district.
- Solapur- Jalgaon route's survey is completed and need funds allocation, so that it can help Tuljapur, Osmanabad, Beed, Jalna regions
- Demand of survey between Latur Road- Jalkot- Bodhan
- Demand for constructing a new BG line between Latur Road- Nanded as it's awaiting funds.
- Demand of survey between Latur - Gulbarga
- Kurduwadi- Latur Road line be doubled & electrified as per budget asap.
- A new BG line be constructed between Pangaon- Latur, so that trains from Parli need not have to go to Latur Road

NZB-KCG Demu hauls from PF3 and gets ready to depart as the KCG-NZB Demu arrives at PF2. While the loco is reversed for the just arrived Pune-NZB Passenger at PF1 which is also getting ready for the rake sharing with NZB-Pandarpur Passenger which departs at the same time but in opposite direction of NZB-KCG.

Look how dramatic it is, let's name it as the Golden Ellipse as these stations shall play a vital role between CR and SCR once the proposed lines and other pending projects gets completed. Bodhan-Bidar line (in dotted brown) which is pending to be commissioned would be boon connecting the either sides. Though it may take a lot of time but the future of these stations will make an economical impact in the development of this region.

Gulbarga Latur distance would be arround 140 to 150Kms... instead of connecting to Latur road railway station Gulbarga-Latur new line should connect at Latur . And to answer your question Gulbarga to Latur road distance would 140+22Kms=162 Kms

The new Latur-Gulbarga line can branch out from Sultanpur station(new station on Bidar-Gulbarga new line). This can save additionally 10kms for entire Latur-Gulbarga new line construction...
The Latur-Gulbarga should go via
Gulbarga-Sultanpur(already line exist)
Sultanpur-Karnataka Central University (Kadaganchi)
Umerga-Khillari- Ausa-Latur(If it goes via Nilanga it will be round about)

I agree, but just a diversion of about 10-20 Kms can bring a Taluka place like Nilanga under a BG line and that can help the people.
If you are aware Usmanabad was no where on the Barshi- Latur narrow guage line, but when the new BG line was put, the route was diverted to cover Usmanabad.
As per MP Ravi Gaikwad, the proposed route is from Ausa- Kasarsirsi- Nilanga- Omerga- Aland, which I believe is being surveyed.
