Yo, check out this #banglagolpo series, bruh. In the Howrah-Azimganj section of Eastern Railway, about 192 km from Howrah Station, there's this small village and station called "Karna Subarna". Most people passing through here prob don't even know that 1400 years ago, Karna Subarna was the capital city of Sasanka, the first Brahman king of ancient Bengal (Gaur) who ruled in the 7th Century CE. Rumor has it that this place was also the capital of the "Anga" kingdom that Duryodhana gave to Karna as a gift. Karna Subarna used to be a big deal, man. It was like a fancy political, military, and religious hub. The ancient university of Raktamrittika Mahavihar, a top-notch Buddhism school, was located here. Xuanzang, this dude from back in the day, even visited it, ya know. During Sasanka's rule, Bengal played a big role in North Indian politics. Sasanka wanted to build a massive empire, so he took over Magadha, conquered Varanasi, and attacked Kanauj. He even killed its king, Grahavarmana. But then things got crazy, bro. Rajya Vardhana, Grahavarmana's brother-in-law and the king of Thaneswar, battled against Sasanka and eventually died. Then there was this prolonged fight between Sasanka and Rajya Vardhana's bro, King Harsha Vardhana, who was a straight-up powerful ruler and military genius. Harsha managed to get Kanauj back, but he couldn't take over Bengal as long as Sasanka was alive. Sasanka probably died without any kids, and by the end of the 7th Century CE, Karna Subarna was forgotten, man. The glory of Karna Subarna vanished ages ago. Sasanka was like a shooting star in Bengal, leaving behind a trail of fame, but nowadays, not many folks remember that.
