Morning Accident Leaves Citizens Shocked | Body Was Removed After Second Train Ran Over It
Mysuru: Prema B was always in a hurry . Every morning, she would rush on to the platform just before the 7.25am 56204 Mysuru-Chamarajanagar train chugged into the Chamarajapuram station.
On Tuesday, she came under the train at the manned level crossing gate. Prema tried to cross the railway gate before the train from Mysuru came in, but was crushed her to death. The train dragged her along, and parts of her body were strewn across the rail

tracks.
Prema, who worked as an attendant at the Chamarajanagar SP's office, was a resident of Bogadi in Mysuru.
The tragedy didn't end there. As shocked passengers gathered on the platform and waited for the railway authorities, Prema's mutilated body lay in the middle of the tracks for more than an hour.
A plea by her agonized family members and onlookers to remove the severed parts before the next train came in went unheard, as the authorities said certain processes had to be followed. Around 8.50am, the Mysuru-bound train from Chamarajanagar chugged out of the station, further mutilating the body .
Prema's son-in-law Sunil GM said the body was taken off the track well after 9am. A railway official admitted there was a delay in lifting the body and another train had run over the body, and that her limbs and severed parts were strewn all over the track.
Mysuru Railway Police finally shifted the body to the mortuary and handed it over to the family after an autopsy.

Agree. Very slow response by authorities. Same happened in Chennai a few days back. The lady who got murdered at Nungambakkam Station, lied dead for hours on the platform. Sad but true.

This is not true.. In Chennai case, it was a murder. With in few minute railway police has reached the spot, followed by state police.Even medical team has reached the spot and confirmed her death. Body was there for forensic team to come and collect the evidence which were needed. It took time for them to come and do the process. Media made big story out of this and spread such news. Yesterday's hindu news paper clarified the issue.

RAILWAY BUDGET: A FIRST REACTION
The Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has presented his first Railway Budget. The budget differs from previous ones. It also does not take the populist route of announcing hundreds of new trains. It focusses on the vision Prabhu has for Indian Railways. It speaks of consolidation and implementing concrete steps to upgrade the existing infrastructure.
Emphasis is given to increasing train speed, track doubling and tripling, gauge conversion and electrification. Trainsets are proposed to be introduced in a few lines on an experimental basis. A trainset is a
...
set of 8-12 coaches with powercars at either end. They are fast in accelerating and breaking and no time is lost in the turnarounds.
Most ideas presented in the budget seem people-friendly, but at least one, namely, increasing the Advance Reservation Period from 60 days to 120 days, will not help the public. It is unrealistic in expecting the public to plan 4 months in advance and book tickets. This proposal will be a boon for touts. More significantly, it will pad Railways’ coffers since it will get to keep the money for an additional two months.

Proposal to decongest Mysore railway station approved by Railway Board
Raj Kumar Lal (right) took charge from the outgoing Divisional Railway Manager Vinod Kumar in Mysore on Friday.—PHOTO: M.A. SRIRAM Mysore will have a second railway terminus at Belagola to keep pace with the rapid expansion of the city and to increase rail connectivity with rest of India.A proposal submitted by the Mysore Division has been accepted and is expected to make its way to the ‘pink book’ which, in railway parlance, means list of approved projects by the Railway Board and is bound to be executed.
The

issue of second terminus for Mysore was high on the agenda of the local railway authorities for many years. While Ashokapuram was mooted as an ideal station initially, the idea was not pursued as there was no sufficient land for expansion.
The authorities plan to develop two railway platforms and a few stabilising lines, apart from developing pit lines for rake maintenance. Speaking to presspersons here on Friday, outgoing Divisional Railway Manager Vinod Kumar said that in future all Bangalore trains will depart from the city station, while those going towards Hassan-Arsikere, Hubli section will leave from Belagola. “There is no dearth of land at Belagola and the local authorities are willing to sell it. Land belonging to a defunct industry has been acquired by the district authorities and may be made available to the Railways,” he said.
‘Complete by 2014’
This will help decongest Mysore railway station where the traffic is expected to increase on the completion of the Mysore-Bangalore track doubling work coupled with electrification slated for the end of 2014.
“Once the running time between Bangalore and Mysore is reduced, the authorities plan to introduce a train every hour depending on the requirement,” a senior railway official said.
Meanwhile, sources say the development of Belagola as second railway terminus may take five years or more. But in an effort to ease traffic load off Mysore station, there are plans to host three stabling lines at Belagola and convert one of the two stabling lines at Mysore station to a full-fledged pit line.
This will shore up maintenance facility and help run additional trains from Mysore for a few years. Sources say the development of stabling lines at Belagola and a pit line at Mysore will cost Rs. 28 crore and a proposal has been submitted to the Railway Board.
Primary maintenance of each rake takes about eight hours while secondary maintenance of rakes takes two hours. Therefore, an additional pit line at Mysore and stabling lines at Belagola will pave way for the introduction of more long-distance trains from the city.

This is a hell of an idea. How will the passengers reach belagola in the first place. Its not even in Mysore district, way too far, no connecting road, no public transport, does not fall in rapaid bus transit corridor. It takes alteast an hour to reach Mysore from there. In the name of decongesting this will cause lot of inconvenience to passengers. It should be used as coach maintenance yard with pit lines and not a terminal specially for HAS/ASK bound train. NWT/CMNR trains can start as they will pass through Mysore Jn.

This is a hell of an idea. How will the passengers reach belagola in the first place. Funny part is its not even in Mysore district but is proposed second terminal for Mysore station. Its way too far, has no connecting road, no public transport, does not fall in rapaid bus transit corridor, inaccessible to 70% of population through public transport. Autos will charge alteast 300 rupees to Mysore from there. It takes an hour to reach Mysore from there. In the name of decongesting this will cause lot of inconvenience to passengers. Its not a practical solution. It should be used as coach maintenance yard with pit lines and not a terminal specially for HAS/ASK bound train. NWT/CMNR trains can start as they will pass through Mysore Jn.

Yes.No idea how such decisions are being taken without discussion with local rail users. As you rightly said due to inconvenience and expenses towards commuting to II terminal( fr ASK trains) the proposal could be limited to maintenance activity.
The scenario after track doubling completion is to be addressed.

A good move by SWR. However passengers may feel difficulty in getting to and fro Belagola rly station as connectivity either by AUTO or CITY bus is poor now. This has to be improved once Belagola terminal becomes operational. It is matter of another 5 years.

Present plan doesnt look that convincing as only Hassan bound trains will start from Belagola and Bangalore bound trains cant start from here owing to track alignment. Chamarajnagar bound trains will pass via Mysore even if started from Belagola. Better to develop pit lanes for maintenance activity at Belagola for long distance trains and develop Ashokapuram as second terminal.
