“No train service was cancelled on account of the LUS construction work and only minor regulation on the operation of train service was done”, Salem Railway Division sources toldThe Hindu.
The Salem – Jolarpettai section was an ever busy one with long distance trains criss crossing every now and then.
The residents of Danishpet and surrounding areas suffered long detention at the railway level crossing gate No. 108.
The sufferings of the people could be gauged from the fact that the railway gate has to be closed at a frequency of every 15 minutes for the trains to pass over.
The LUS work undertaken on the direction of U. Subba Rao, Divisional Railway Manager, was completed under the direct supervision of R. Karthikeyan, Divisional Engineer, East region of Salem division.
Pre-cast RCC boxes were used in the construction of the subway, as such the movement of trains will not be affected.
The LUS has put an end to the sufferings of the people as the new facility ensured free movement without any interruption caused due to the closing of the railway gate, round the clock. The LUS has also ensured safety of the people.
The Railways have also provided approach road to the LUS.
Salem Railway Division has planned to eliminate all the 18 level level crossing gates on the Jolarpettai – Salem – Sankagiri section by 2020.
