Track doubling on the Ariskere-Karadi stretch in the Mysuru division of South Western Railways is nearing completion ahead of schedule, giving an impetus to rail infrastructure in the region.
The 36-km stretch is on the Arsikere-Tumakaru section (96 km) and is poised for commissioning of freight and passenger traffic in 2 months.
What about electrification?
Doubling is the first priority on this route. It has severe capacity constraints because of the single line.
Atleast they can do electrification along with doubling
Yes, but there have been problems with getting funds for this project. With such a crunch, better to spend the money on the doubling, which is far more urgent than electrification on this line.
Also SWR has more than enough number of EMD's to ensure good passenger/freight services on their routes. They will not be in a hurry for electrification.
I think after completion of doubling between tumkur to arsikere i.e march 2019 electrification work may start from bangalore to jru because funds have been alloted in last year budget. I think in swr only bangalore division is concentrating on electrification
