A man suspected to be involved in the East Bengaluru riots was arrested from the Nagpur railway station on Wednesday after being on the run for over five months, police said.
Mudassir Khan, a garlic vendor from DJ Halli, is among the men who played a “major role” in the arson attack on the residence of Pulakeshinagar MLA, R Akhanda Srinivasa Murthy, on August 11, 2020, police said.
The Central Crime Branch (CCB), which is investigating the case, had been tracking Khan, who went missing since the riots. Police learnt that he had boarded a train to

Delhi from the Yeshwantpur railway station.
A CCB team headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police B R Venugopal checked his mobile phone location and caught hold of him at the Nagpur railway station.
Confirming the arrest, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sandeep Patil said they were questioning Khan as a court had remanded him in police custody.
The CCB said Khan took part in the arson attack at the behest of his brother Mujnu and a few other people. He had taken his friends to the MLA’s house and torched it, the CCB added.
Fearing arrest, Khan went into hiding in Shivamogga, Tumakuru and other places, staying with relatives and friends. He came to Bengaluru three days ago to meet his family and was trying to escape to Delhi, the CCB said.

After a gap of 13 years, trains on the Yelahanka-Chikballapur section will now begin running at an increased speed of 100 kmph, which is currently 75 kmph. With this, a total of eight stretches in South Western Railway now have the capability of running trains at an enhanced speed.
“Speed tests were conducted at 110 kmph, an additional 10 km, but trains will run only at a maximum speed of 100 km,” said Chief Public Relations Officer, SWR, E Vijaya. The following sections have been authorised to run at 110 km speed: Baiyappanahalli-Dharmavaram, Penukonda-Sri Sathya Sai Prashanthi Nilayam-Dharmavaram, KSR Bengaluru-Jolarpettai (Double Line), Yesvantpur-Tumakuru (Double Line) and Birur-Chikjajur.

is taking up works to increase the speed of its sections by carrying out track renewal works, which enable trains to run at a speed of 110 kmph. All requirements for faster trains, like increase in super-elevation at curves, correction of transition length through tamping, attending points and crossings with track machine, have been completed,” an official release said.

Over a month after raising the platform ticket fare at three railway stations, the South Western Railway has done the same at 11 other train stations in the Bengaluru division, starting Wednesday.
Platform tickets are KR Puram, Bangarpet, Tumakuru, Hosur, Dharmapuri, Kengeri, Mandya, Hindupur, Penukonda, Yelahanka, Banaswadi, Carmelaram and Whitefield railway stations will cost Rs 50 from October 21 to November 10. The hike is to ensure non-travellers do not enter stations in the wake of Covid-19, the SWR said.
